Welcome to Almuñecar, premier resort of Granada´s Costa Tropical. Our apartment “El Tesorillo” is situated outside the town just five minutes from the beach in area known as Taramay. The apartment is one hour´s drive from Malaga airport and is easy to find from the main road, although once inside it is quiet and has glorious sea and mountain views. The apartment has three bedrooms sleeping up to five people (extra bed for sixth person by prior arrangement), two bathrooms, a fitted kitchen with electric cooker, fridge-freezer, microwave cooker, dishwasher, washing machine and hot water heater, and a large dining/living room leading onto a large part-shaded terrace where you can eat al fresco and gaze at the view, including hang-gliders drifting down from the hills.

| Other: | There are overhead fans in the living room, but usually a breeze passing through the open living room sliding door is enough to ventilate the apartment in summer. There are also fans provided in the bedrooms, and one bedroom has a safe. |

Notes on accommodation
Because there is a security pass for vehicles to enter the urbanisation, the road below is fairly safe for children and elderly people walking down to the beach.
There is also a lifeguard on duty at the pool and a pass system ensures that only guests staying in the urbanisation gain access to the pool.
Accessibility
The apartment has difficult access for the disabled, since entry to the apartment entails climbing 20 steps. Once you have entered, the apartment is single level.
Outside
There is terrace furniture - a table and six chairs, and several reclining chairs. We do ask you to water our plants during the summer.
Coast/Beach
Apart from the beach, which is five minutes walk away (down the hill) and has two pleasant chiringuitos, there is also a large pool for the exclusive use of the complex. The pool is open mid-June to mid-September. Taramay is a pleasant area with its own restaurants, shops and beach bars. There is a four star hotel nearby which has health and fitness facilities and a bar with live music, and there are more night time entertainments and fiestas in nearby Almunecar.
Golf
The nearest golf course is in Salobrena 15 minutes drive away. It is an 18 hole links course called Los Moriscos, and the clubhouse is informal and situated on the beach. There is also Baviera Golf between Torrox and Torre del Mar, some 25 minutes drive away. Again this is an 18 hole open course with a reasonable reputation and good clubhouse facilities.
Skiing
Skiing is available in the Sierra Nevada ski resort, a drive of just over an hour from Taramay. Sierra Nevada is one of Spain's premier ski resorts and is open to both skiers and snowboarders, as well as containing numerous other facilities such as ice rinks.
Special interest holidays
We also own and manage several houses in the valley of lecrin, a beautiful area mid-way between the coast and the city of Granada. The Valley is an ideal spot for the Sierra Nevada and the Alpujarra villages on the south-facing slopes. There is also fantastic access to Granada and the Alhambra, and we can arrange shared taxis for evening trips and nights out.
Travel
The apartment is one hour´s drive from both Malaga and Granada airports.
Distances
La Herradura and Salobreña - 10 minutes drive. Nerja - 15 minutes drive. Moorish castle and gardens of Velez de Benadaulla - 25 minutes drive. Rio Verde dramtic riverside walk - 15 minutes drive. Villages Otivar, Jete, Lenteji - 10 to 20 minutes drive.
Further details
Although Almunecar is a busy holiday town, it has the heart of an old Andalucian pueblo with narrow cobbled streets. The old town is full of tapas bars, bodegas, restaurants and interesting shops of all kinds. The town market sells fresh fish, meat and vegetables and the Friday outdoor market has clothes, shoes and local products. Attractions include a Roman fish-salting factory, botanical gardens (jazz festival in July), bird park, castle, museum and a water park. Out of town you can travel up Almuñecar’s tropical valley to the mountains. A visit to the beautiful lake at Bermejeles and the old Moorish town of Alhama de Granada, with hot springs. If you want you can call at El Ingenero shopping centre, with 12 screen cinema complex, snack bars, shops and a huge hypermarket, on the way back. There is also a 1st class golf course here, and in the opposite direction towards Granada in Salobrena. Riding is available just as you leave Almunecar through the Tunnel Taramay, up the side of the Hotel Taramay, (Centro Equestre Tropical) and down below the Hotel Salobrena.

Guest comments
The apartment is well equipped and clean, and the directions we were given were very good. The owner was there to greet us anyway and show us how things worked.
The apartment has two bathrooms and everything seemed to be clean and in working order. We didn't notice any disturbance at night as you so often find with apartments near the beach in the middle of summer.
The best feature of the apartment is the terrace. It is part shaded to cope with the heat of the midday sun and in the evening the light on the foothills falling away to the coastline is just magical. Sometimes you can see hang-gliders gently drifting down to land on the beach and this is always a nice thing to watch.
The apartment is only 5 minutes walk to the beach but there is a climb back! If you feel lazy you can take the car down to the lower gate and park there, as the urbanisation is controlled by security gates, so there is less competition for parking spaces than along the beach road generally. Lindsey

Hello everyone, my name is Maria. I come from the north of Spain, but I have lived in England, where I met my partner Tim. We have been living here in Granada for 18 years and know the area like the back of our hands. One apartment we rent out on Owners Direct is delightful and spacious with views of the Costa Tropical, an area where we have spent many holidays ourselves with our kids. Recently we have just put on a house in the Valley of Lecrin, inland from the Costa Tropical towards Granada. We have more houses for rent there if you fancy extending your stay to include the hills and valleys of the Sierra Nevada. Have a lovely holiday if you stay with us, and don't hesitate to ask for information about any area of Granada, because this is our home.

Why the owner chose an apartment in this location
The beach at Tesorillo is one of the ebst in the Costa Tropical and certainly has a lot of atmosphere. In the evening people visit the beach and the place takes on a more Bohemian feel. The two bar-restaurants there are each quite distinctive too. To get to Almuñecar is only five minutes in the car and taking the slower route along Playa Velilla (also a very nice walk) you pass several good restaurants like the Argentinian Steak House and Vernissage. There is also the Almunecar water park which provides great entertainment during the summer. As a centre for touring Tesorillo is very near the motorway junction and you don't have the complications of getting through Almuñecar traffic in the summer months. You can visit Granada and Malaga in less than an hour from the apartment.
Unique benefits of the property
The property has lovely views overlooking the coast and the foothills of the Costa Tropical. The large terrace is great for eating out and watching the life down on the next door beach Playa Pozuelo. The urbanisation Tesorillo also boasts a large pool open from June to September, entry to which is controlled by the lifeguard to only admit residents (you are given a pass card). Finally if you want to watch your favourite TV programmes or films on DVD, we have installed a comprehensive satellite TV system with British, Spanish, French and German channels.
