Notes on accommodation
Suitable for children from 8 years and younger children if the parents are prepared to supervise responsibly as the terrace is high and the steps steep. Suitable for most pets but by agreement with the owner at the time of booking.

Accessibility
There are stairs leading to the terrace and the second floor is upstairs. The front door is up a small hill. It is accessible for elderly people if supported by someone younger (my mother comes with me for instance). But it is not really suitable for people with wheelchairs or severe mobility problems. If need be its possible to arrange ( for a fee to negotiate directly with Renee) for Renee to meet you at Girona airport ( or Perpignan or Barcelona ) and drive you directly to the house.

Outside
There is a terrace which has a sink and a BBQ. There is a patio which is well planted with herbs and flowers. It is suitable for children but only with adult supervision as there are stairs and the surfaces are hard stone and tile and the terrace is high.

Coast/Beach
There are beaches very close where one go for a quick dip in the morning. Beaches at Cap de Creus the famous national park are a 15 minute drive. Lovely remote beaches are easily walked to in 15. The near one( 5 mins) is sandy but tiny. Mostly one swims off rocks in secret coves discovered hiding on either side of the town. And real sandy beaches can be found in near by Rosas along with a water sports park and a municipal swimming pool.

Golf
Golf can be played in near by Perelada. It is about a 40 min drive.

Skiing
Skiing would be a long drive but could be done -- Not something I ever attempted but at school friends went from Barcelona at weekends and Cadaques would be closer --

Special interest holidays
Renee can arrange a tour ( for an agreed price ) of a number of art galleries, or to Figueras where is Dali's museum or the Monastery of San pere de la Roda is 10 miles or Cap de Crues is 15 mins by car ( an hour on foot). Spanish lessons can be organised and there is a homeopathic doctor who is available for consultation if you speak to Renee. Renee is a font of knowledge re Cadaques and will be a wonderful resource throughout your stay. And she can point you towards walks -- to the lighthouse at Cebolla beach or from Cap de Creus into town or even all the way to Port de la Selva. or straight up the mountain to where the town celebrates San Sebastian in the winter ( january 20 )

Travel
Girona-Barcelona is 55 miles/75 min drive. Perpignan is nearly the same. Barcelona main airport is 80 miles /there is a direct bus from Barcelona airport to Figueras where its easy to get another direct bus to Cadaques. From Girona airport there is a shuttle to the Girona train station and from there one can get a direct bus to Cadaques. Sarfa is the company. Its possible to arrange with Renee ( for a fee to be negotiated with her) to be picked up at any of these airports.

Distances
There are many interesting places all within a few hours drive. San Pere de la Roda is a ruin but was a monastery (10 miles), the Greek ruins of Ampurias are maybe 15 miles away, the Dali museum is 20 miles away and his house is a ten minute drive. Pubol is near Girona ( about 75 mins) where Dali hand-painted a castle for his wife, Gala. Barcelona is 80 miles by car.. Castello has a cathedral despite its size, there is a casino at Perelada and wine tasting is near! Pot factories in Bisbal.

Further details
There are many lovely restaurants in Cadaques including Casa Nun and Casa Anita and the very famous El Bullli which is half way between Cadaques and Rosas. And there is a great aquasports near Rosas and next to it a go-cart run.

Booking notes
I ask for one third the total rent to be paid at the time of the booking and the rest paid directly to Renee when you arrive in Cadaques. There is also the non-negotiable cleaning fee and a 300 euro damage/key deposit which is given to Renee and she returns at the end of the stay. I send a booking form with all the terms and conditions made clear. If a booking is made before Feb 6, 2011 I discount the price by 100 euros.

People have said the house is like an old vicarage, that I should change nothing, that it is magical, original, spacious and allows for a great deal of privacy.

I have stayed in this charming house a number of times. It has two beautiful terraces and wonderful views. Waking up tot he sea and gorgeous bay just near the old church is an invigorating start to the day. Would highly recommend it for all the family. The house is old and original and is quietly situated between the

About the owner
The house is where I grew up. My parents restored it in the early 1970's taking care to restore it as a Cartalan fishing cottage and not make it into a villa. I am a writer - not yet successful - and live in London. I always spend some time in Cadaques but like the house to be used when I am not there so I rent it out as a holiday let. it has been host to many friends who call it Casa Secreta and to many guests who have left a guest book full of fond memories. Its a special house full of paintings and sculptures from all over the world.

Why the owner chose a home in this location
My parents bought the house when I was twelve. At the time we were living in Bangladesh which was then East Pakistan. My parents knew they wanted to retire to Europe but did not know where. So they started out in a rental car - with me in the back - and drove from Madrid all the way to Yugoslavia but failed to find anything in France or Italy or Yugoslavia. They had given up when we drove back via the coast road to Spain and late at night encountered a sign Cadaques five and Rosas 7. Rosas took us back to Barcelona but Cadaques was five and Rosas was 7. We chose Cadaques and my parents awoke in their Paradise. So they bought a ruin and restored it.

Unique benefits of the property
The house is in a perfect location being just in the town and yet five minutes away from the beach Salvador Dali used as a child and his childhood home. The house he lived in thru his adult life is 20 mins away at Port Lhighat and his disused studio - derelict and not open to the public - is at the end of my street. Five mins will take you to the village, the church or the beach. And two mins will take you to the towns health clinic and one min will bring you to a shop for organic and health foods.
