The apartment, on the first floor, has recently been refurbished and has central heating. The surrounding landscape is dominated by Montserrat, 7km away, one of the great pilgrimage sites of Spain. You can drive to the monastery, take a cable car from Monistrol or a train or walk, if you have the stamina. Barcelona is 50 minutes by car on the C55. The Pyrenees, to the north, are an hour and a half away. Using Cal Jepet as your base, you can make day trips to every part of Catalunya including the historic monasteries of Santa Marie de Poblet and Santes Creus. The seaside town of Sitges is also within range for a day's outing. A local vineyard sells wine and farm produce. Live opera – a new venture – is performed in a nearby Castle in the summer and Manresa has a new Arts Centre with summer performances.

Notes on accommodation
All the rooms have stunning views of the garden and surrounding countryside. A stone stairway at the back of the house gives private access to the apartment and a quick route to the pool. Children have plenty of space to play by the pool and in the open fields around the house.
Outside
The pool, which is shared with the owners, is surrounded by almond and olive trees – and comfortable sun loungers.
Travel
The nearest airport is Barcelona, 50km away. A car is essential.
Distances
There is a Carrefour Supermarket at Manresa 10km away but if you prefer small local shops these are in Castellbell, 5km away.
Further details
There's an excellent restaurant a short walk away. If you like walking, birdwatching, reading, sunbathing or just resting in beautiful surroundings, Cal Jepet is the place for you but there are plenty of attractions in the region, as well as the proximity of Barcelona. Trains from the nearby villages of Castellbell or Sant Vicenc de Castellet run every hour and take you to the centre of Barcelona.

Owner profile
About the owner
We are retired teachers who used to live in London and came here seven years ago. We speak English, French, Spanish and Catalan. Alan is a painter and the house reflects this, with brightly coloured walls and beams. We have five grandchildren (not resident) so the house contains a collection of children's books and DVDs. We are very fond of classical music and accommodate participants to the international choir festival held in the village every year. We love cooking and entertaining visitors. We have considerable knowledge of the local area so can happily advise on walks and excursions.

Why the owner chose an apartment in this location
The house is set in a secluded valley with large grounds and a view of Montserrat. To reach it you have to negotiate a fairly rough track. It is a classic Catalan Masia, a stone farmhouse about 200 years old. Each room in the house has beautiful views. Many visitors comment on the sense of tranquillity. Yet connections with Barcelona are easy, with two motorways and two railways passing through the village.
Unique benefits of the property
The accommodation to let is separate from where the owners live, with its own entrance and access to the pool. However there is contact and advice should you want it. On arrival you have a welcome basket with basic foodstuffs. There is an excellent restaurant a short walk away.
