Electric fans in bedrooms for summer and heaters to bedrooms and living area for cooler evenings or winter rentals. There are stairs to front door and open-plan stairs inside the villa. Outside and indoor stair lights operate on two-way switches. There is a private parking area for villa guests. Supervised pets are welcome. The owner has dogs, cats and a horse in the paddock area (in case you need to know for allergy purposes!) but all animals are under control and will not be allowed to invade your privacy unless invited.

Accessibility
Unfortunately this villa is not suitably adapted for wheelchair use.

Outside
The kidney-shaped pool has a very large terrace with countryside views and pretty lighting for evening use. There's a BBQ, sunbeds, shades, table and chairs, and pergola eating area. A private balcony terrace with table and chairs overlooks the pool and terrace. The villa also has a small private rooftop terrace. Occasionally the pool is shared with the owner and family, but only with the consent of villa guests as the privacy of guests is always paramount.

Coast/Beach
The Costa del Sol is only 1 hour away on excellent motorway access. Busy resorts such as Torremolinas, Fuengirola with its famous Tuesday street market and Marbella offer party nightlife and good beaches, or more quiet places can be found. Malaga has wonderful restaurants, indoor market, good beaches and the marina.

Golf
Hotel Antequera Golf (full 18-holes) is only about 30 minutes away and much more reasonably priced than those at the coast where there are many courses to choose from.

Skiing
Sol y Nieve (Sun and Snow) is the pretty ski resort in the Sierra Nevadas about 1.5 hours away. Snow season is long (October through to April)and the resort caters for all abilities, including a dedicated snow-board area. Husky dog sledge rides and snow bikes are for hire. The resort is a great favourite for walkers in winter and summer alike.

Special interest holidays
A small river borders the land and paddock area so we have a fantastic variety of birds. Professionally guided walks and watches and full day excursions into the mountains can be arranged on request. This can be a wonderful way to explore those truly hidden inland mountain areas.

Travel
Malaga airport is 1 hour by good motorway access. Granada airport is 45 minutes away and now offers low-flight travel.

Distances
Villanueva de Algaidas is the nearest village (7kms) The lovely historic town of Antequera is 30 minutes. Owner profile

About the owner
I retired to live here in Spain 9 years ago and have never regretted it! My home is an old Cortijo (country house) which I restored and made the donkey sheds and outhouse into a comfortable casita (small villa) for holiday rentals. This is private and at the back of my own house and overlooks the pool area. I find that life in ´retirement´is busier than I thought possible as there is so much to see and do in this area. Being English does mean that we are expected to rescue all stray animals - I have 3 dogs a cat and a horse, all rescued and very much loved. I do however keep them away from my guests unless they insist on adopting them too!

Year purchased: 2001

Why the owner chose a home in this location
One of the criteria for a place here in Spain was distance from the airport (at that time the only choice for this area was Malaga). My sons were at University so I wanted them to be able to have cheap freebies with their friends - we are only 1hour away on really good motorways. The local people and atmosphere in these country towns is so different from the hard-sell life in the more tourist areas. We have good local restaurants and bars together with all the modern amenities - we just don´t have the hectic pace of the coastal area which suits me very well. Also being a woman on my own I´ve always felt very safe and have made many good Spanish friends.

Unique benefits of the property
Apart from the pretty surrounding countryside, this property sits conveniently close to but hidden from a very good motorway network to Cordoba and Granada (approx. 1hour away) and Sevilla (approx. 2hrs.) There are riding stables and free tennis courts within 30minutes and lots of interesting sites in the locality. We now have the new high-speed train to Madrid -very smart and very quick at only 2.30hours! So a day sightseeing in Madrid is now a real possibility.
