The apartment has a terrace accessed by two French sliding double glazed windows. This terrace has a table and six dining chairs with a large parasol and a Weber BBQ. There is a spiral staircase to the roof terrace which is the same area as the flat and has two sunbeds and a shading orangery.

Changeover day
Our change over day is Saturday. You will be required to leave by 10am and can have access on arrival at 3pm.

Notes on accommodation
The apartment is ideally suited to a couple. A cot can be provided for a small child. Not really suitable for children although the settee is also a double sofa bed if you have guests.
Accessibility
There is access via one flight of stairs from ground level and two flights of stairs from the underground garage. Not suitable for people with mobility problems.
Outside
There is a weber BBQ which can be used on the terrace or on the roof terrace. There is an exterior dining table and 6 chairs for eating alfresco. There is a shading orangery on the roof terrace with sunloungers.
Coast/Beach
The beach is a two minute drive away and a two minute drive back. You can walk to the beach in minutes but the walk back is not for the faint hearted. The beach at La Herradura is of gray sand and pebbles and has several restaurants that will hire you sunloungers and parasols. There are several beaches on the old road to Nerja that are just wonderful and have good restaurants that cater for the bathers, one of them is a naturalist beach.
Golf
There are many golf courses some being of a very high and demanding standard others are all difficult. There is a course 20 minutes away called Baviera which is very well maintained but 48 euros per round. Another called Anoretta 40 minutes away at about the same price, both are hilly. Another course near Salobrenia called Los Moriscos 25 minutes away that is demanding but flat. Two other courses that are of a very high standard are Antequera north of Malaga and Santa Clara south of Granada both accessed by motorway. Golf clubs can be made available on request but bring your own shoes and gloves.
Skiing
Just over an hour away are the mighty Sierra Nevada Mountains with Spain’s best skiing and highest peaks at over 3400m. The Sierra Nevada offer a year round sports resort based in a beautiful National Park. As the sunniest ski resort in Europe with one of the longest ski seasons (early December to late April) the resort offers some of Europe’s best skiing for the intermediate and beginner skier. It is a surprisingly large resort with over 80 kilometres of groomed piste and 27 different lifts and many mountain restaurants and a well developed resort area with several hotels, restaurants, bars and that special Spanish apres ski night life. On a clear day from the top of the resort at 3300m you can clearly see the Mediterranean Sea and the coast and Riff Mountains in Morocco.
Special interest holidays
La Herradura and Nerja are famous for their underwater caves and this has led to many sub-aqua diving clubs operating in the Herradura and Marina del Este. The bay and surrounding area have been designated a marine reserve. Sailing boat hire and speed boat hire, both with and without crew are available from the marina. Para gliding is also available with companies offering training for beginners. In addition, a short drive takes you up into the mountains where there are numerous walks and traditional white villages to visit. Also during February and March, visiting the Alpujarras with the wonderful almond blossom is a sight to behold. Andalucia is a bird watchers dream, due to the wonderful variety of species, beautiful unspoilt countryside and the good climate, it is the perfect location for a bird watching holiday. Horse riding is also available, with stables 2 mins away.
Travel
You can drive to La Herradura from UK in two days, motorway almost all the way. Malaga and Granada are both less than an hour's drive away and there are many hore car companies at both. A car is essential. There is a bus service along the coast.
Distances
La Herradura village is 5 mins drive. Marina del Este is 10 mins drive. Nerja is a 10 minute drive away and has caves to explore, Almunecar is 10 min drive. Motril is 20 min drive. Malaga is 50 mins, Granada is 70 mins, Marbella is 90 mins, Gibraltar is 120 mins and Puerto Banus the world famous marina is 100 mins drive. Las Alpujarras mountain range is 40 mins. The world famous, 'ninth wonder of the world', the Alhambra Palace is 50 mins drive away.
Further details
There are many beach restaurants and shops that offer good value. There is a newsagents that sells English newspapers and many small supermarkets. The meat, fish and fruit market opens every morning around 9am closing at 1pm. The sea food is stunning. There are three banks where the tellers understand some English.
Booking notes
There is a deposit to be paid of 250 euros which is payable with your booking. This is also a security deposit will be returned to you once our property manager has checked the inventory and ascertained there is no damage. The electricity bill for the duration of you stay will be deducted from this deposit. This will be a small amount unless you leave the AC on 24/7 some people do! You will be expected to pay for your holiday six weeks in advance.

About the owner
I am a 65 year old divorcee with two grown up daughters. I live near Twickenham when in the UK and in Andalucia. I play bridge and golf in both places. I share a house with a lady friend in Andalucia which we let in the Summer and I have this one bed flat that I live in if the house is let. I have a dog called Patch. I am in Spain from the 1st September 2010 until the first week in July 2011 and can be contacted on email or on my Spanish mobile.
Why the owner chose an apartment in this location
La Herradura is the most pleasant village I have been to on the Mediterranean coast. Don't know how to spell Mediterranean. It is more of a Spanish resort than catering for huge numbers of northern Europeans.
In winter the climate is just wonderful with blue skies and temperatures between 18 and 24 degrees. Great for golf and sight seeing.
Unique benefits of the property
It is quiet year round. The views are magical, Simple to get to Almunecar and two minutes by car from La Herradura. The apartment has been furnished to a very luxurious standard and the kitchen and bathroom are fantastic.
