You will find two very pleasant restaurants in easy walking distance & the uncrowded beaches within 15 minute drive. Four golf courses including Desert Springs within 30 minute drive. Relax on the sun-loungers & take in the fantastic views from the roof terrace, which keeps the sun until the early evening. After sunset, usually spectacular over the mountains! enjoy the night sky, the lack of light pollution means the stars seem brighter here!

Changeover day
We're fairly flexible about arrival and departure times although if your arrival and/or departure clashes with other guest we would ask you not to arrive before 2.00 p.m. or to vacate by 10.00 a.m. We don't have a set change over day.

Notes on accommodation
Families with children are welcomed but need to be aware of the balconies in the master bedroom and lounge and supervise young children appropriately.
There are gas and electric heaters which keep the apartment very snug in Winter both bedrooms have air-conditioning and there is a stand-fan for the lounge.
Accessibility
The apartment is on one level and has no steps leading in - the only stairs are to the roof terrace. It's normally possible to park directly outside but there is also a small car park on the other side of the road.
Outside
The Balcony: gives you spectacular views over the mountains and golf course. Sunset is particularly beautiful as the mountains gradually change colour! There are a sun-blind and table and chairs for outside dining and also a barbecue.
The Large Roof Terrace: Relax on the sun-loungers and take in the fantastic views - you can bask in the sun until the early evening and when night falls enjoy the amazing night sky, free from the light pollution. The stars always seem brighter in Cortijo Grande!! The apartments are set in small but pretty gardens. There is parking directly outside the apartment and a small carpark just opposite.
Coast/Beach
The uncrowded beaches of Mojacar Playa with it's promenade, showers and childrens play equipment is a 15 minute drive. If you like undeveloped beaches carry on down along the coast road and turn off at Macenas beach where you will find two unspoilt bays, right at the end is a chiringuito (a beach side restaurant specialising is seafood) which is open from Easter until October. Garrucha which is a 20 minute drive also has beaches, a promenade, a marina and lots of fish restaurants.
Golf
The apartment adjoins Cortijo Grande's recently redesigned and upgraded golf course which offers excellent rates particularly for monthly tickets. There is a society on the course and visitors can join in competitions.
There are four other courses within a 30 minute drive including Desert Springs (Europe's only American style desert course) but for scenic beauty and good value Cortijo Grande itself is hard to beat and is still definitely our favourite.
Travel
A car is a must as Turre our nearest village (Shops) is a 5 minute drive away. Almeria Airport is an easy 40 minute drive away. Alicante is 1 1/2 - 2 hours drive. Murcia since the opening of the toll road is just over an hour.
Distances
Turre is a 5 minute drive. Mojacar Pueblo is 10 minutes and Mojacar Beach 15 minutes. The Port of Garrucha is 20 minutes. The market town of Vera 20 minutes. Vera Water Park is 25 minutes. The Pueblo of Cabrera and the Rancho Cabrera are 5 minutes. The Mountain Town of Bedar is 15 minutes. Mini Hollywood is about 1/2 hour. Golf Courses: Cortijo Grande 3 minutes. Desert Springs 25 minutes drive. Marina del la Torre and Valle del Este are both about 15-20 minutes drive. Macenas Beach 25 minutes.
Further details
Turre offers a very well stocked supermarket (Super Turre), a pharmacia, bakers and a wide selection of other small shops and a surprising number of restaurants offering a wide range of cuisines: Spanish, Indian and Chinese. It also has banks and cash points. The mountain pueblo of Cabrera is a Moorish style village. Its domes can be seen from the apartment and it is well worth a visit. It has 2 good quality restaurants and fantastic views as well as western style riding stables - the 'Rancho Cabrera' - which has bi-weekly barbecues with live music in the Summer. The ancient white Moorish hill town of Mojacar is very picturesque with it's narrow winding streets, small shops, bars and cafes and once again spectacular views. The town of Vera has a good selection of shops and an excellent market on a Saturday morning. If you are bringing children or grand children in the Summer the water park just out side Vera is probably a must. The port of Garrucha has beaches, shops, a marina, lots of waterfront sea food restaurants and probably the best local market on a Friday. Boat trips run along the coast from here in Summer. A little further along the coast from Garrucha is the little seaside town of Villa Ricos which has a nice sandy bay (excellent swimming for kids and snorkeling) and several restaurants with sea views offering good value menus del dia on week days. Mini Hollywood is where many of the spaghetti westerns were made. We still haven't made it ourselves but are told it's fun. A nice day out is to drive along the coast road (some stunning and sometimes scary views) through the Cabo De Gata natural park and Carboneras to the small fishing village of Agua Amarga. It has a very pretty beach with good swimming and the French run 'Family Hostal' restaurant which is open to non residents at weekends and offers a very good menu del dia. Up in Bedar at the Miramar restaurant you can share a whole succulent leg of lamb and enjoy fantastic views.

We are happy to take bookings by email followed by cheque but do like to talk to client on the phone if possible as this gives us a chance to answer any questions and make sure the apartment is suitable for them. We ask for 1/3 deposit at the time of booking and the balance to be paid 1 month before the let begins.

We are both golfers with children and grand-children. Still working so can't spend as much time enjoying our lovely apartment as we would like.

Why the owner chose an apartment in this location
We fell in love with Cortijo Grande, it's a very special place. Generally referred to locally as 'The Valley' it has a tranquillity and atmosphere all its own, which brings people back again and again. If you like loads of noise and to be right at the centre of things it probably isn't for you, but there are lots of amenities with-in easy reach. We love the views over the Cabrera Mountains and on a clear day distant views of the Mediterranean. The area has lots restaurants but still isn't over commercialised. As golfers we can take advantage reasonable priced golf right next to the apartment. Almeria is the driest region of Europe so we enjoy getting some Winter sun and being able to swim from May until October. Being only 45 minutes from Almeria airport is also a big plus.

There is an excellent riding stables at the other side of the valley. Los Limonaros is a very pleasant restaurant and bar with a large swimming pool for public use and literally just down the road. The Almazara restaurant and bar, which serves as the golf club house, is the original Cortijo (farmhouse) it has a great atmosphere and an ancient vine in the courtyard believed to be over 200 hundred years old and is a 5 minute walk.
