Notes on accommodation
For winter each room has a low energy electric heating panel. The thick walls make air conditioning unnecessary. The accommodation is on 2 floors, with bathrooms upstairs and down. A kids bedroom (with single and bunk beds) and the extra living room (games room) makes it very suitable for families with children. Exposed beams and brickwork, restored old doors and ceramic floor tiles create a cosy and romantic atmosphere.

Accessibility
There is one small step from the road. Inside the ground floor has no steps and there is a downstairs shower room and toilet as well as an en suite shower room and wc in bedroom 5 (downstairs). There is also a twin bedroom located on the ground floor as are the general living rooms.
There are no special facilities for wheelchair users. There is a ground-floor level terrace at the back and then a staircase down to covered patio area and then the pool.

Outside
There are 2 large terraces (front and back). The back terrace is ideal for summer dinners after the sun has gone down. There is a pergola. Down an external staircase you come to a shaded patio area: there is a full-hammock and also a hanging chair - ideal for quiet reading. The main shaded patio is ideal for lunches and has wicker-work furniture and table.
This area has several flower and herb beds, a very old vine giving extra shade and usually lots of grapes, and hanging baskets everywhere. There is also jasmin and "dama de noche" to produce beautiful evening scents. Beyond this is the swimming pool (about 15 sqm). There is also a barbecue.

Coast/Beach
30 minutes drive to the sandy beaches of Torre del Mar. These have relatively unspoilt beaches lined with typical beachfront restaurants (chiringuitos) serving delicious fresh fish and seafood.
Nerja with sandy beaches, popular Balcon de Europa and Nerja Caves is a 45 minute drive.

Golf
Baviera Golf is located at Caleta de Velez - 25 kms. It is open to non members and has excellent facilities.

Special interest holidays
We can organise Spanish or English language lessons,
We can help put clients in contact with - yoga/meditation classes, guided walks, horse riding etc.

Distances
Villa Carlitos is located in a hamlet about 5 mins by car from Comares, one of the beautiful white villages of the Axarquia. 15 mins by car takes you to the National Park of the Montes de Malaga.
Malaga city is 40 mins away: historic city centre, Roman amphitheatre, Arabic palace and castle, Picasso birthplace and art gallery, restaurants, tapas bars, cosmopolitan shopping etc.
Granada (Alhambra Palace) and Sierra Nevada skiing - 90 mins
Morocco is 3 hours away (road to Algeciras + ferry).

Further details
Next door is El Molino bar/restaurant. Sebastian & Pepa provide Spanish and international cuisine at very reasonable prices. They have free wifi. On the other side is El Duende, a shop/vegetarian restaurant offering ceramics and other typical handicrafts and excellent vegetarian food - English spoken (by Ruth – the owner). She also offers yoga and meditation classes.

There is a cheese 'factory' in the hamlet with its own herd of goats (the sound of the goat bells is one of the most evocative sounds to be heard) and bread is delivered on request. There are also a couple of mobile shops (vans) which pass through a couple of times a week.

5 minutes by car (35 minutes walk) Comares is a dazzling white village with spectacular views over the whole of the Axarquia. It is obvious why this was one of the last refuges of the Moors in Andalucia. Here you will find banks, small super markets, chemist and a few banks and restaurants. There is also a public football pitch and swimming pool. Comares is famous for 'verdiales' folk music and has several music and other festivals each year.

Throughout the Montes de Malaga National Park there are hiking trails and places exhibiting local rural skills.

There is excellent hill walking right from the front door and guided walks can be requested. Masmullar is an impressive rock formation looming over Los Ventorros. A steep half -hour walk takes you to the top where there is an extensive 'mesa' (flat area) with olive trees and remains of the last Moorish settlements in Andalucia - the views are stunning!

Local stables provide horse riding and information can be found in the welcome pack. Within 1 hours drive there are literally hundreds of villages each with their own traditions and festivals and all worth getting to know. Fantastic weekends in Morocco can be arranged (if booked and paid for in advance): 3 day, 2 night excursions for around €185 with departures most Fridays from Malaga. (information in welcome pack).

Owner profile

About the owner
Bob and Alba Lucia spent 4 years renovating their property in the small hamlet of Los Ventorros near the hill top village of Comares. Most of the doors and windows are original and have been beautifully restored. Features using local materials, tiles, beams and exposed bricks etc are many. The result is that everything contributes to the cosy, "rustic" style that we wanted to create. We enjoy the cosiness of Winter evenings in front of the log fire and the refreshingly cool areas of the shady patios under the vines in the summer. Villa Carlitos is for people who appreciate the countryside and value traditional styles. If you are amongst these and you want to see a part of "real" Spain, you will probably enjoy Villa Carlitos as much as us.

Year purchased: 2005

Why the owner chose a home in this location
Los Ventorros is easily reached from Malaga and its international airport but is as far away in time and atmosphere from the Costas as you could imagine. This is the real, rural, Spain. You hear goat bells, you can buy cheese in the village cheese-makers, you see the old men playing dominos in the bar next door - you can go walking from the front door. The unspoilt mountain-top village of Comares is just 5 minutes away. It is one of the villages which maintains the tradition of the Verdiales (folk dances) and has many festivals and other excuses for having a great time. We enjoy dinners with friends around the large dining room table with the log fire in winter and late dinners on the back patio in the cool of the summer evenings, with the silhouettes of the mountains as the backdrop.

Unique benefits of the property
While Villa Carlitos is located approx 500m above sea-level and is surrounded by spectacular mountain views, it is not "in the middle of nowhere". The bar next door offers company (in Spanish), a drink and some home-cooked food, while Ruth, on the other side, is English, has a shop selling ceramics and other handicrafts but also essential food items. She also offers vegetarian food, yoga classes and guided walks if you like. Our son especially likes the table-tennis table in the basement. Los Ventorros is easily reached by a reasonably well-maintained tarmac road (not a dirt track!). A car is preferable but we can offer a pick up service from the airport or guide guests to Los Ventorros for a small extra cost. We can also do an initial shop for you so that the essentials await you
