Originally a Spanish farmhouse, part of the property has been adapted to provide a totally private self-catering apartment. While keeping the original beams, the rooms were refurbished in July 2009 giving a double bedroom, bathroom, well equipped kitchen and sitting room with freesat TV and air-conditioning units. Guests will have total private use of the pool and surrounding patio at all times.

Changeover day
We give flexibility on changeover days though would stipulate that arrival should not be before 4pm and departure by 10am. We may however be flexible with these times if bookings permit.

Notes on accommodation
Not suitable for children. Heating is via the air-conditioning units during the winter months. Basic welcome pack on arrival.
Accessibility
Not specially constructed for wheelchair users as there are 3 steps leading down to the front door of the apartment with one step up into the hallway that adjoins all rooms which are all on one level so no further steps once inside. A ramp leads to the pool area so is very accessible.
Outside
There is a private parking area immediately outside the front of the property of 24.3sq.m. To the side is the gate leading into the pool terrace which is an area of 78.5sq.m. The pool is 6.5 x 3m with a depth of 1 to 1.5ms and is open from April/May to the end of October. There's a gazebo with table and chairs, plus a centre hanging light for evening dining. Sun loungers and various inflatable pool items. There is a poolside shower and the pool area is protected by a 2 to 3 mtr wall behind and at the sides with a balustrade to the front overlooking a lovely small garden and olive groves beyond. Pool towels are provided. There is a gas barbecue with a double plate grill with warming rail over plus a separate gas ring on the side. The hood can be closed and used as an oven with temperature gauge.
A track winds up behind the property providing good local walks into the groves and to the neighbouring village of La Celada.
Coast/Beach
The nearest seaside beach is around 1 hrs drive close to Malaga.
Golf
Challenging beautiful course with many lakes situated in the mountains above Antequera which is just over 35 minutes by car. Great place to have a snack after your round. Deals can be had between the hours of noon and 4pm every week day, especially during the summer months.
Skiing
Skiing in the Sierra Navadas is about 1hr 30 mins away.
Special interest holidays
Ideal area for painting, bird watching, walking and horse riding.
Travel
Malaga Airport is a 1hr drive. Granada Airport is a 45 minute drive. The drive from the port of Santander will take you 9 hrs. Car hire is essential and all the major companies operate within the airports.
Distances
We are 1.7km to the nearest petrol station just outside the village of Iznajar which has all amenities. You can walk to Iznajar in 30 mins but drive it in just 7 mins. Rute is 12kms and takes between 10 to 15 mins drive to the best supermarket shopping. 50 mins to Granada, 2 hrs to Seville, 1hr to Cordoba.
Further details
Fishing permits may be bought via the town hall in Iznajar and paid for at one of the local banks. We have an inflatable two seater kayak for hire.
There are many ATMs, a small hospital/clinic where the doctors do speak English, a dentist, and 2 garages for mechanical problems.
Rute has Anis museums and a ham museum. Mercadona is the best supermarket with fresh produce and a large fresh fish counter and different types of freshly made bread. Iberplus is also in Rute but more difficult to find. There's a Lidl in Lucena with a Carrefour (a hypermarket), and a large shopping centre in Antequera in La Veronica.
Lots of locals walks, quad biking, bathing at the beach on the Lake of Andalucia, the largest in the region, and mountain bikes can be hired in Rute. Many local restaurants and lots to do.
Major supermarkets are open all day but small shops close at 2pm and reopen around 5pm to 8pm. All shops are closed on Sundays.
Booking notes
Reservations can be held for 1 week in the winter months but only 2 days during the high season. A 25% deposit is required to secure the booking and full settlement must be met 8 weeks before commencement of the holiday. Reimbursement will be made if the holiday is cancelled before the 8 week settlement period, otherwise the deposit will be forfeited. Please take out your own insurance.

About the owner
We moved to lovely Andalucia some 9 years ago from Devon, just on the edge of Dartmoor. The family are grown up so there was nothing to keep us in the UK especially as we were both working in jobs we could have done without, apart from the salary of course! So we sold the house and with dog, caught the ferry across to Santander and made a new life for ourselves out here and have not regretted it for one minute.
The dog has since died of old age but now we have 2 Spanish muts who are delightful even if they do rule our lives.
We have both very recently retired having run a holiday villa business for the last 4 years. We have, as a result, converted part of our lovely old cortijo to a self-catering unit, as we now know first-hand what the holiday customer wants and expects.

Why the owner chose an apartment in this location
We wanted to live with Spanish people who could not speak any English and be in the countryside as we are country people.
We found Iznajar by literally sticking a pin on a map and came out to take a look. We found this lovely old cortijo that needed a lot of tender loving care situated in a valley surrounded by hills covered in olive trees wherever you look, but just around the corner there are majestic mountains and that huge lake. It's wonderfully rural and full of character with the odd tractor trundling up the track, while totally private and peaceful.
Unique benefits of the property
We are within easy reach of Iznajar the nearest local small town that provides all the normal facilities of a town and it is only a 20 minute drive to the main autostradas to reach any part of Andalucia you care to visit and also not far to the nearest golf course either. We are also surrounded by lots of lovely walking areas directly from the house.
We offer for hire 2 sets of golf clubs, an inflatable kayak to paddle around on the local lake or any other lakes in the area, and provide towels for our own pool. We can also provide a couple of mountain bikes for the more energetic.
