Al-Queria cottage is self contained with a private patio giving views over hills and valleys. The cottage is decorated in a comfortable, 'Al-Andalus', Moorish style and the private patio gets the morning sun for breakfast. The garden has stupendous views, a terrace by the pool, a shaded arbour with barbecue and the clear mountain air provides cooling breezes during the day. Stone walls, an insulated roof and proper heating keep Al-Queria cottage cool in Summer and warm in Winter so is ideal for year round holidays. We provide an oasis of rural calm, away from the stresses of modern life, allowing you to relax in the beautiful countryside of inland Spain.

Our prices include electricity, gas, water, firewood during the cooler months and a welcome pack of groceries.

Changeover day
Changeover day is flexible, just ask us if what you want is available. You are welcome to arrive at any time but we will need until 4:00pm to get Al-Queria ready for you. Please aim to leave by 10:00am on day of departure.

Notes on accommodation
Al-Queria is a "no children" zone and is for grown-ups to enjoy the peace and quiet. Private but near to the owner’s house, should you need help or advice. Our cottage is a "no smoking" accommodation but you are welcome to smoke outside on the patio or in the garden. We are registered and comply with the standards of the Tourism Office of Andalucia.
Accessibility
Al-Queria cottage has floors at various levels and stairs which are steeper than modern standards. The patios are at various levels and the pool is accessed via steps. The garden is mostly level but there are steep, natural terraces that do not have railings or walls.
The accommodation is not suitable for wheelchair users. Please let us know if you feel that any disability may affect your enjoyment or safety as we would be pleased to advise you.
Outside
The shaded, private patio with a table and chairs, faces south offering mountain views. The large (50m x 16m) garden is next to the patio with steps up to the pool terrace, a shaded arbor with barbecue, many sun loungers, easy chairs and quiet places to sit. Our pool is 6 metres long by 3.50 metres wide and the depth shelves from 1.20 to 1.80 metres with steps into the water. It is not overlooked by any part of the house. We occasionally use the pool ourselves but will not intrude on your privacy.
Coast/Beach
Lake Iznajar is an easy 15 minutes drive away with a lakeside restaurant and bar.
Special interest holidays
The area has many local specialists for massage and beauty treatments, horse riding, quad biking, bird watching, nature walking, painting, etc. Please ask us to send you details.
Travel
Malaga airport approx 1hr 10 minutes. We recommend car hire from the airport so that you can take advantage of all of the villages, towns and sights around us. We can offer a 15% discount for car hire from Malaga airport.
Distances
2km to Fuentes de Cesna village with 3 bars, baker, 2 local shops, bank (exchange but no ATM), Friday market
10km to Algarinejo village with many bars, restaurants, shops, 2 banks with ATMs, Saturday market, gentle nightlife and one of the best restaurants in Granada province.
The small town of Ruté is 30 mins by car with a wide range of shops, etc. including supermarkets. Rute also has museums, other places of interest and quite an exuberant nightlife (well at least for inland Andalucia.
Further details
The Alhambra Palace in Granada is 1 hr 15 minutes by car and the Mezquita at Córdoba is about 1 hr 30 minutes. Priego de Córdoba is just 40 minutes away and has a Moorish old quarter, many historical interests and a sophisticated air. The local area and villages are packed with historical and cultural interest.

About the owner
We are an easy going couple who have created the perfect holiday accommodation for couples who want a simple, comfortable holiday. We personally meet you on arrival and maintain and clean Al-Queria to ensure your comfort. We aim to leave you free to enjoy the peaceful and relaxing surroundings whilst we remain on hand for local information or other assistance.

Why the owner chose a home in this location
Cortijo La Charneca sits on it’s own ridge of land, flanked by two valleys with views of the distant mountains and hills. Gentle breezes keep the air fresh in summer and the surrounding olive groves are home to birds and other wildlife. Served by a rural track just 300 metres from a good provincial road, the house is located near two rural villages with bars, restaurants, shops and banks but is well placed for exploring and sightseeing.
Unique benefits of the property
The oldest part of the cortijo forms Al-Queria (a word of Arabic origin meaning “the farmhouse”) which is totally self-contained with a south facing, private patio that adjoins the private pool and garden. We have decorated the cottage to reflect the historic Moorish influences of most traditional life in this area, providing a stylish and comfortable oasis of calm for you to enjoy.
Al-Queria is ideally located an hour or so from Granada, about 90 minutes from Córdoba and only 1 hour 10 minutes from Málaga airport. We personally maintain Al-Queria to a high standard and in addition, we supply all of the "little conveniences" which will will allow you to enjoy your holiday to the full.
