Cortijo Caliz is a 150 year old country house nestling on the slopes of Las Barreras on the outskirts of Orgiva. The house sits in 1.25 acres (4,250 sq.m.) of greenery with cyprus, olive and almond trees, stretching across three terraces. On the lower private terrace, facing the mountains and partly secluded by trees and shrubs, is the 9m (30ft) swimming pool. There is a formal entrance garden and, solely for guests use, a large sheltered rear garden.
The apartment has 2 large light-filled studios, each with bedroom area, en-suite bathroom and comfortably furnished living area. The studios are adjacent to each other and lead onto a large outdoor south-west facing patio. A further double bedroom adjoins studio 2. The well equipped Spanish style kitchen/diner is connected to the patio by french windows. From the kitchen there is a further shady terrace, next to the back garden, with sun loungers, charcoal BBQ and dining for eight. It is well lit and perfect for al fresco evenings.

Notes on prices
The prices are for renting both Studios 1 & 2. If you wish to rent only studio 1 with kitchen etc. the price will be 70% of those shown.

Changeover day
Changeover day is flexible and the apartment will be ready by 4pm for your arrival. We would like guests to arrive by 10pm latest, but exceptions can be made, and guests must vacate the property by 10am on the day they are leaving.

Bedrooms: Bedroom 1 (or Studio 1) has queen size bed, (option for a dbl futon bed), ensuite bathroom with wc and walk-in shower.
Bedroom 2 (or Studio 2) has 2 single beds, bathroom, wc and walk-in shower.
Bedroom 3 has double bed and is directly off Bedroom 2.
Bathrooms: Ensuite to bedroom 1.

Kitchen: The kitchen has fridge-freezer, hob, oven, dishwasher, sink, iron and ironing board. Washing machine in adjacent utility room.

Living Rooms: There are two spacious living room areas with comfy sofas, both lead onto the adjoining sun terrace. The TV, with sky cable, will work in either studio. There is a wood burning stove in Studio 1 and we can provide fire wood at cost in cooler months.

Linens and towels are provided weekly, the property will be clean for your arrival, any further linens or cleaning would incur a small extra charge.

Accessibility
This property has a few steps so is not suitable for wheelchairs.

Outside
At the front of the property, facing the mountains, there is a 9 metre (30ft) swimming pool with sun terrace, loungers and umbrellas for guests private use. There is further large sun terrace running alongside the apartment with garden chairs and shading. From the kitchen there are steps to a further partially shaded patio, this has a large umbrella, a dining table for eight and a charcoal BBQ. Adjacent to this, on this lower level, is the large back garden which is surrounded by cyprus trees and a restored, walled high bank. This is a very private area and is solely for guests' use. The apartment is located in half an acre of olive and almond gardens linked by stone pathways and shaded areas for guests to relax in.

The owners live in the adjacent building and so are on hand if needed, however you are assured of a very private holiday. They have five dogs who occupy a large paddock at the other end of the property. They are very quiet and to date there have been no complaints!

Coast/Beach
Orgiva is in the Alpujarra Valley which is 35 mins drive from the Costa Del Sol and the nearest beach is at Motril. There are many beautiful beaches and interesting resorts including Almunecar (Jazz Festival in mid July) La Herradura, and Nerja which has several beaches.

Travel
Malaga airport is 1.75 hours drive and we can arrange for you to be collected, for approx 75 Euros. We recommend that you have a car as we are 5 mins drive from the centre of Orgiva, however this is not essential if you enjoy walking. Granada Airport is 1 hour away but UK flights do not land there.

Distances
We are 5 mins (2 kms) drive to Orgiva which is the nearest town, or a 40 minute walk. It is half an hours drive to Pampaneira and Capilleira, two of the highest mountain villages in Spain. Granada, 50 mins drive, is a beautiful cultured city and the famous Alhambra Palace is a must see.

Further details
Orgiva is a charming working/market town with all the necessary amenities including supermarkets, banks and a hospital. There are many bars and restaurants and the town's central Plaza really buzzes at night, so there's plenty to do until the early hours, including two discos.
The Alpujarra Valley is famous for its mountain walks and the three highest villages in Spain are half an hours drive from Orgiva - Capilliera is one of Spain's prettiest villages. There is horse riding, hang gliding and bikes for hire, and the nearest beach at Motril is just 35 minutes away.

Booking notes
We require a 30% deposit to hold the booking with the balance of payment due on your arrival. The prices are for renting both Studios 1 and 2. If you wish to rent studio 1 only, the prices will be 70% of those shown and Studio 2 will not be rented during your stay.

Our fortnight at Cotijo Caliz was one of the best family holidays we've had with plenty to see and do and an excellent place just to chill out. Tina and Allan were always very helpful and on hand for any problems and advice regarding local knowledge and we loved the house and our studios, cool shady and bags of character. Our three kids struck up an instant rapport with them and the pet dogs and cats, all of which had great temperaments. About the owner
Tina & Alan - came to Spain in March 2008, having planned for a year to retire here. Tina, a graphic designer, worked in advertising/design, and Alan was a private hire driver. Both animal lovers, we arrived with 2 cats but the 'family' has grown. We love the life here and the days are full. There's a big expat community here and we have made many friends. We want to live creative lives and have run courses here with plans to do more. The garden is an ongoing project and every year sees more planting and new ideas being fulfilled. We are both avid readers and the house and apartment are filled with books. We are living the perfect life in many ways even though the Alpujarra continues to be full of challenges.
