Real Spain can still be found. Casa Encounter is situated in the very Spanish village of Vicorto, near Elche de la Sierra, Albacete province, La Mancha. The Sierra del Segura is renowned for its rugged landscape and rivers (Rio Segura, Rio Mundo, Rio Taibilla and Rio Tus) thus attracting walkers and fishermen alike. Fishing permits can be obtained from Elche de la Sierra. From the casa it is easy to visit beautiful Ayna, Letur and the castle at Yeste, the source of the Rio Mundo at Riopar and many other Roman and Moorish places. There is a bar/restaurant and tiny supermarket in the village. Elche de la Sierra is only 4 minutes drive away with shops, bars and restaurants but do take your Spanish phrase book as there are not many English speakers!

Changeover day
Normally changeover day is Saturday. Vacated by 10 and new arrivals to have access from 4pm but I'm sure we can be a little flexible if all parties agree.
Accommodation

Notes on accommodation
Vicorto is for people who wish to get away from the crowd and sample the Spanish way of life. Remember that shops will all be closed from 2pm until 5 pm. This is not really a holiday destination for children as there is no McDonalds, no beach, no playgrounds and not many other kids to play with, but there are castles, fiestas, a local swimming pool nearby (and river bathing) and beautiful places to visit.
Accessibility
There are stairs in Casa Encounter and you will need a car to reach Vicorto from the airport at Alicante, Murcia (San Javier) or Albacete and to enjoy the Sierra del Segura region.
Outside
There is a solarium with a table and chairs but please remember the sun in Spain is extremely dangerous in summer.
Coast/Beach
La Mancha is inland Spain and at least 2 hours from the coast.
Travel
You will need a car to visit the many interesting places in the Seguras. Flights are available from most UK airports to Alicante and Murcia which are both 2 hours away.

Further details
Banks and supermarkets can be found in Elche de la Sierra and there is a service station in the town on the road to Hellin. There are brochures of places of interest in the casa but please leave them when you go home!

About the owner
I have lived in Spain for 11 years and we have 3 properties, the one in which we live and two for rental. The La Zenia property was renovated 3 years ago and we used it because it is so near the sea and in a lovely location for holidays. We then bought the Vicorto (La Mancha) property and that was completely refurbished to a high standard and we let it as well as using it for weekends in the beautiful Sierra Segura.

Why the owner chose a home in this location
This area is a well known weekend retreat for Spanish city dwellers, very quiet with loads of history and rugged scenery. You will need a car but places like Yeste, Riopar and Ayna make fabulous day trips from Vicorto village. A place to chill.
Unique benefits of the property
We like to get in the car and explore as traffic is light and scenery stunning. A stroll to the bar in the evening and you can see real Spain.
