Our fabulous holiday! Chilled out family Wiltshire UK Review Submitted: September 18, 2008 Date of Stay: August 2008
We had a great time at this comfortable villa in the thriving Spanish seaside resort. Spanish being the operative word, there a few non-Spanish tourists in the area and you need to operate on Spanish time! But the opportunities to relax and see a bit of the real Spain are immense. We chilled out by the pool on many days or popped down to one of the many local sandy beaches where the breeze makes the temperature very comfortable. Good waters ports available. Local restaurants served good Spanish food although you will often need your phrasebook to translate. The villa is very well appointed and the air conditioning helps you to sleep at night if you are not a hot weather lover. Small children would need to be watched as the pool is not enclosed but those families with older children will love the pool and garden (ours were 10 and 14). Seville is only an hour away.
Owner profile
About the owner
We both live and work in Southern England. We love to travel, but our villa in Spain now takes up most of our spare time. We have owned it for over 6 years. Have sweated and fretted over it, but have no regrets buying it. We have a lovely beach within 5 minutes walk, which we love to walk on during the warm winter days.
The village has it's own idiosyncrasies, has few English, but very friendly.
Year purchased: 2003
Why the owner chose a home in this location
We happened upon El Portil by chance, and thoughts of Marbella disappeared! We are surrounded by a huge forest, which have cycle paths & BBQ's within.
We love to walk along the empty beach during the warm winter days and play golf on the local course (Nuevo Portil).
We are on the Atlantic side of Spain so there are many wind assisted activities at the beach, where locals practise all day.
Unique benefits of the property
We are in the middle of Seville & Faro airport which are connected by a near empty motorway.
We have a lovely private swimming pool & well kept garden solely for the rental people, so once inside you can feel safe with your kids (or dad's) running around.
We have had built a wooden framed gazebo to eat your fresh meat & fish cooked on the purpose made BBQ, in the shade.
The local inhabitants' are mainly spanish who live in large detached villas or well kept bungalows with huge lemon trees (unlike our poor tree!).
