Skiing
Granada and the Alhambra Palace are just over one hours drive away and the ski slopes of the Sierra Nevada just 20 minutes from there. The massive and beautiful Sierra Nevada lines Granada’s horizon to the south and is often snow capped, even in summer. There is wonderful skiing in the winter months around the popular Sol y Nieve mountain resort on the slopes of the Sierra Nevada. A good road takes you to Granada and from here the Sierra Nevada is well signed. A road, which winds through an arid mountainous landscape before it climbs to an altitude of 3398m, a feat which has earned it the name of the highest road in Europe, brings you to the Pico de Veleta where you can take in the breathtaking views. Built for the 1992 Winter Olympics, this is a very popular venue for skiing lovers.

By Bus: The airport bus leaves every half hour between 07.00hrs-23.00hrs. to Malaga bus station. Cost about 1 Euro. The Nerja bus is run by 'Alsina Graells Sur'. Buy your ticket at their office inside the bus station building prior to boarding - under 5 Euros - and goes from Bay 38.

Distances
The surrounding countryside is filled with white washed, sleepy Andalusian villages and orchards scented with ripening oranges and lemons. Frigiliana, a 15 minutes drive from Nerja, is one of Andalusia’s most picturesque hill top villages. From here there are wonderful views over the surrounding valleys and out to the coast. The world famous Nerja caves are natural archaeological caves containing the world’s largest column. Each July it hosts the International Music Festival.

Further details
Nerja, bustling by day and by night, has all the facilities of a modern resort, charming but lively with its twisting alleyways, lined with family owned shops and excellent variety of restaurants. Nerja has several popular beaches with lively bars and restaurants whilst others are quieter and more secluded with rock pools in which to explore marine life. The atmosphere in Nerja is that of time having stood still. In the surrounding countryside, you can see teams of oxen ploughing the fields. At the same time Nerja has all the facilities of a modern resort. Nerja is, of course, a paradise for water sports; swimming, sailing, windsurfing, scuba diving, water-skiing and fishing are all available. Nerja boasts many small coves between the Balcon de Europa and the very popular Burriana beach, a place in which to indulge oneself in the famous paella dish. See it being cooked over the beach fire at Ayo‘s restaurant, one of our favourite places to eat. On Wednesday evenings in high season you can watch the flamenco dancing whilst enjoying your meal. For walkers there are many way marked walks taking you along the coast or inland. Inland, Lake Vinuela is well worth a trip to see this beautiful blue lagoon surrounded by the mountains. Granada and the Alhambra Palace are just over an hour’s drive away and the ski slopes of the Sierra Nevada just 20 minutes from there. Take the scenic coast road east to Marina del Este, a bustling little port and then on to Almunecar whose Friday market is very popular. Vist the new Almunecar aquarium and also the young and old alike will enjoy the bird park with its extoic assortment of birds. West from Nerja is Torre del Mar, a busy seaside town with a vast beach and elegant promenade.

Guest comments
We all had a fabulous holiday and have become very passionate about Nerja and its surrounding area. We spent many hours on the local beach experiencing many glasses of 'Beer Grande', jugs of sangria and numerous skewered sardines. We loved it down on this beach and enjoyed the locals at this family run bar while the girls preferred the Tropicana pool and the cafe bar and their independence! Your property was first class, very well equipped clean and spacious. Although we didn't cook much at the villa the facilities were excellent. Julie Millward

We had a lovely holiday in your apartment, it was very spacious, quiet and relaxing. The views of the mountains were stunning. Nerja was different to other Spanish resorts we have visited but very interesting. The beach bars were great for food during the day and we thoroughly enjoyed the paella. We did try other restaurants that you recommended and they were all very good. Alan Dowson.

Owner profile

About the owner
After living in France and being in the holiday business for many years we decided it was time to find warmer climes. This brought us to the Costa del Sol and Nerja where we now live permanently.

Why the owner chose an apartment in this location
We bought this property in 2004 having been searching for some time for a place which would offer suitable comfortable and spacious accommodation for five people.

Unique benefits of the property
The property offers five bed-spaces and two bathrooms with an extra large terrace suitable for sunbeds, a barbecue and dining. An additional attraction is the parking right outside the front door, no steps and a very short walk to the swimming pool with its adjacent bar and restaurant. From the terrace there are views of the mountains, the sea, and the town of Nerja and the beach. The nearest beach is a few minutes walk and has many beach restaurants offering excellent value food. The beach path is an alternative walk to Nerja town. There is also a frequent bus service to Nerja from the bus stop in front of the Marinas Hotel at the entrance to the urbanisation.
