El Manso is an old stone house built in the 19th century and restored, leaving intact the typical character of its original use as farmhouse and hard cider press. This Casa de Aldea can accommodate 6/7 people and has a garden where the spectacular view of the Cordillera del Sueve can be contemplated. El Manso belongs to a compound which also includes the house of the owner, an ‘hórreo’ (Celtic grain store) which dates from the mid-18th century, vegetable garden and grazing land. The ‘three Trisquels’ (Celtic symbol) is the classification denoting quality of the highest level that the Principado de Asturias bestows on a Casa de Aldea thus assuring that it meets the following criteria: At least 50 years old, private garden for the guests' use, with outdoor furniture in harmony aesthetically with the surroundings, parking space within 100m and adequate access for handicapped persons and a bathroom adapted for their use.

Luz & family
About the owner
Born in Madrid in 1951, from an Asturian family, Luz Rodriguez wants to reconnect with her roots. She offers her guests the opportunity of getting to know about Asturias, a Celtic Northern province in Spain, a narrow strip of land between the Cantábrico Sea and the Picos de Europa that she now considers her home. She is a journalist by profession, having spent 14 years as Foreign Correspondent in Brussels (Belgium) and Washington D.C. (U.S.A.) for Radio Nacional de España (Public Broadcasting System in Spain) where, among other things, she learned how to get used to other cultures, humans being the best part of all. She was and still is involved with Shambhala Training, as part of her learning process. She speaks fluent French and English.
Year purchased: 1998
Why the owner chose a home in this location
I was looking for a property with a view, tranquility and hiking trails. And El Manso provides plenty!
Within a radius of 15 km. from "El Manso", one can enjoy day hikes (uphill) in the hills around Mount Cayón (between 45 min and 90 min round-trip), to Pico Viyao (2 - 2 1/2 hours round-trip) and downhill hikes to the Cave of Sidrón (2 km.), where flashlights are required.
There are also a couple of routes that combine a pleasant countryside drive and medium-difficulty hiking: to the Majada of Espineres from Alto de la Llama (AS-258), where one leaves the car (3-4 hours round-trip), and to Pico of Ordiyón from Miyares (AS-259), which affords a breathtaking view of the Piloña River valley.
Unique benefits of the property
El Manso is a "Casa de Aldea" (literally "Hamlet House"), the name given to a privately-owned dwelling in Asturias, located in an area with a population of less than 500 or on land where urban housing construction is prohibited.
El Manso has been bestowed with "three Trisquels" (Celtic symbol), the classification denoting quality of the highest level for this kind of lodging.
