The property is in the popular area of La Siesta, having a mix of ex-pat residents and holiday properties. The apartment block is gated, secure and quiet. Views from balcony are of Torrevieja salt lake and a couple of minutes walk from the apartment is the peaceful La Mata nature reserve, great for leisurely walks. There are several complexes of restaurants, bars, supermarkets plus a few small shops for fresh bread and everything you need just a few minutes walk away, bank 15 mins. A small aqua park is 15 mins walk. A sports bar with pool is 15 mins away too. The lively,still very Spanish,town of Torrevieja is a short bus ride away, bus stop is one min from the apartment (you can see it from the window). The apartment benefits from a communal solarium for day long sunshine. South east facing apartment balcony will have shade on summer afternoons so you have the best of both worlds! Lots of lovely beaches, nearest 10 mins drive away. Torrevieja town has good beaches,accessible by bus.

American kitchen, well equipped with fridge, full size cooker/hob, washing machine, microwave. Plenty of crockery, cutlery and pans.
Good sized living room has comfy sofa bed, table and chairs, WiFi Internet, 100 channel digital TV plus DVD player and a selection of DVDs. Gas fire for winter months. Patio door leads to the balcony.
Large south east facing balcony has table and chairs, plus sunloungers which can be taken up to the communal solarium for the serious sun lover!
Towels and bedlinen are included, also beach towels. Cleaning of the apartment at the end of your stay is included in the price.

There is no lift in the apartment block so it is unsuitable for people with mobility problems.
Important notes on accommodation
The apartment has been recently decorated throughout, is well equipped with everything you could need for a self catering holiday. We cook quite a bit ourselves when we stay there and spend lots of time on the balcony/solarium and frequent the local bars etc. It's cosy and we have priced it competitively to offer people a nice, cheap holiday. A car is always handy as the Torrevieja/Orihuela Costa area has lots to offer but by no means essential. It all depends on your budget/requirements.

About the area
Your nearest beach is Los Naufragos on the edge of Torrevieja town, 10 minutes drive away or accessible by bus (stop 1 min from apartment). Other great beaches are Los Locos, Playa del Cura, La Mata (all Torrevieja) Guardamar (lovely, 15mins by car), La Zenia, Playa Flamenca (Orihuela Costa) and half an hour away there is the famous mud bath at Lo Pagan. Spaniards flock there in summer for the healing qualities of the mud, holiday makers do it for the laugh! Many of the beaches are blue flag.
How to get there
Alicante and San Javea (Murcia) airports are both 40 mins drive. Ryanair, bmibaby, Easyjet are just some of the airlines offering cheap flights (especially if booked well in advance). Airport transfers can be arranged for you but, to be honest, car hire is so reasonably priced that we think it is a far better option, as you then have the convenience of a car during your holiday. You may find that the cost of a car per week is no more than return transfers for instance.
Torrevieja is 4km away, lots of restaurants, bars and shops. A funfair and craft market are in the harbour area, busiest in summer. A street market is on Fridays, big, busy and cheap selling everything from fruit to furniture. There are many other local markets (info in file in the apartment). Elche, famous for shoes and palm trees, is a short drive away. Cartagena, historical naval city and now cruise ship destination, is well worth a visit and about one hour away.
In addition to the local shops, larger supermarkets are a short drive/bus ride away including a huge Carrefour and the Habenaras shopping centre with boutiques, perfumeries, book shops, electrical and gift shops etc. The nearest bank is approx 15 mins walk from the apartment and there are more bars/restaurants in this area. At most times of the year there are local fiestas involving colourful parades, lots of children and vibrant music. Easter sees a week of magnificent parades in Torrevieja and the first week in May there is an Andalucian May Fair featuring a wonderful parade of horses and all things equestrian, plus flamenco (even dogs and babies are in costume!). July sees the Moors and Christians parades (Guadamar's is wonderful), you will never have seen costumes like these! And many more, there is always something going on in Spain.
About the Owner
My hubby Harry and I bought this apartment in 2008. We had previously lived in Torrevieja from 2005 to 2007, only coming back to the UK for family reasons.
We soon realised how much we missed the place and our friends!
An ideal solution was to buy this cosy apartment, our home-from-home which we like to share with others who want a comfortable, reasonably priced base to explore the area. There's lots to do, walks around the salt lake and nature reserve, good English bars (with bitter!) and good restaurants with great prices (especially the Chinese menus - 3 courses from 7 euros!) Beautiful beaches are nearby and we can see all our friends! Perfect!
