Villa in Calpe, Costa Blanca
About the area
The villa is a 20 minute stroll or a few minutes drive to the nearest beach. Calpe has 2 'Blue Flag' beaches separated by the Penon de Ifach rock. The beaches have wide expanses of sand and promenades bordered with shops, bars and restaurants. There are some children's play areas. In peak months there is an open-air cinema on the beach and a small evening market. Sailing, windsurfing and scuba diving are available from a smaller beach within a 10 minute drive.
There are 2 golf courses within a 30 minute drive plus an additional one that has just been opened on the outskirts of Benidorm, very close to the motorway.
How to get there
Alicante airport lies to the south, 70 kms. Valencia airport lies to the north, 125 kms.
Both airports are served by normal & budget airlines. Car hire is recommended & there are car hire offices at both airports and bookings can be made from the UK. There are additional car hire offices in the town. Taxis are available at both airports and also in the town. Calpe has a train station. There is a shuttle bus from the airport. There are buses that run from Alicante airport with links to Calpe.
Valencia is a major city and hosted the famous 'America's Cup' in 2007 & hosts the European Grand Prix. It has a science and arts complex with an impressive aquarium which is well worth a visit. Benidorm is the nearest large town - it has the 'Terra Mitica' theme park and 'Aqualandia' water park together with other attractions. Benidorm Palace is a venue for cabaret evenings and is very popular. Nearby are other towns and villages both on the coast and inland which are interesting to visit.
The Costa Blanca is renowned for its weather - it has a climate that has been rated as one of the most healthy by the World Health Organisation - sunny days with blue skies and sea.
The historic town of Calpe is dominated by the Penon de Ifach rock which is a nature reserve accessible to the public, it is 332 metres high and dominates the skyline. The rock is reminiscent of Gibraltar and due to the prominence of the rock Calpe has been of historical importance in the past.
Under the rock nestles the port and from here boat trips leave to other towns along the coast and the fishing fleet thrives. The older part of the town is quiet and has a traditional Spanish character with interesting churches, museums and narrow lanes to wander in. There are walking tours of the 'Old Town' which is always cool and shaded when you want a change of scene.
There are restaurants of many nationalities together with traditional Spanish ones giving a wide variety of choice and price.
Calpe has many festivals throughout the year - details are available from the web - www.calpe.es or the local Tourist Information Offices - often banks are closed and shops have limited opening at these times.
Calpe has it's own market and flea market and other local towns also have markets on different days for the dedicated shoppers. Calpe has shops and can normally provide all you need for your holiday. Larger shopping areas are close to hand. Just outside Denia is a shopping complex, with a cinema (headphones for all nationalities) and restaurants.
Calpe has its own website calpe.es and there are several Tourist Information Offices in the town.
There are four large supermarkets within a five to ten minute drive of the villa and a local supermarket which carries a large selection of goods just five minutes walk away.
We would like to thank you for sharing your little bit of paradise with us, it was a splendid holiday and your villa was ideal for us.
The villa excellently supplied, cleanliness and location was fantastic but for us it was having the pool to ourselves. Another bonus is the friendly corner shop so you didn't feel you had to visit one of the supermarkets.
Without a doubt one of the best holidays we ever had. The villa was excellent as well as being clean, well cared for, well equipped (like home from home).
One of the best and nicest villas we have stayed in - level of equipment was very high and the pool was excellent.
A nice surprise to be welcomed with a few essentials. A fantastic well stocked villa, pool, perfect peace and quiet.
