Guaro is a pretty village with small supermarkets, a bakery, bars serving tapas and a popular barbecue restaurant. There are many fine restaurants and hotels just a short drive away, some with swimming pools. The village pool is open in the high season. Nearby is a National Park with lakes and stunning wildlife, perfect for walkers and those who enjoy the outdoors. By contrast, the nearby coastal resorts have many shops, restaurants and bustling bars. Enjoy all of this whilst enjoying a truly Spanish base in a local village. Venture north and the historic towns of Ronda (1 hour), Granada and Seville are manageable and worthwhile day trips.

Notes on accommodation
Freestanding heaters and air conditioning units in rooms. Stairs are steep and not suitable for the infirm. The village streets are also quite steep.
Accessibility
See above, the house is not suitable for the infirm or wheelchair-bound. It is accessible by car and there is space to park outside the house but the village streets are very narrow and driving though them can be nerve-racking for new visitors. An alternative is to park on the nearby road just 100 yards away.
Outside
Large private roof terrace for dining, with tables and chairs, barbecue and sun-loungers. Good for watching village life and listening to the goat bells in the hills nearby.
Coast/Beach
It is an easy and beautiful 20 mins drive to the coast, straight down the A355 to Marbella and the coast road, so also convenient for visiting other coastal resorts. The beaches are excellent and the choice of restaurants either on or beside the beach is second-to-none. It is easy to find a quiet stretch of beach away from the busy areas. Enjoy barbecued sardines on the beach after parking your car at Marbella Marina. We will be happy to pass on our knowledge of the area and what not to miss.
Golf
There are many golf courses in the region within 20km of the house. Details and recommendations available on request.
Travel
The nearest airport is Malaga, 45 minutes drive away. Car hire is recommended, although there is a local bus service into Marbella and Coin (the nearest town). Car hire is cheap and highly recommended to make the most of your stay in Guaro as there are so many worthwhile places to visit.
Distances
Monda is the nearest village, just 5 minutes drive or slighty more by bus. On the outskirts of Monda is the Marbella Gun Club, highly recommended for relaxing in beautiful surroundings. Lunch and drinks are served and there is a swimming pool. Close by is an old castle, now a top class hotel serving dinner and drinks to non-residents. Monda itself has a choice of bars and a renowned restaurant in the centre - "Balcon de la Jaola". Coin, the nearest town, is 7km away for restaurants and shops.
Further details
The village of Guaro has all the day-to-day facilities, including shops and cash facilities. The village restaurant is very popular, with congenial and welcoming hosts and large portions of excellent food! Our English friend in the village is glad to help and advise our guests with her local knowledge of the region.

'Just a short note to say thank you for letting us stay in your lovely Spanish house! We had a really great time despite one or two cloudy/rainy days. We spent a lot of time near the coast - went to Marbella (had sardines on the beach!), Puerto Banus (spent a fortune on a meal overlooking some of the millionaires boats), and Fuengirola (a bit like Blackpool but with a slightly better beach). It was really nice to spend time in Guaro on your roof terrace, which we used a lot. We went to the barbecue restaurant and had a meal there.....what gigantic portions... lovely. We even made ourselves understood with the help of the Spanish phrase book!!! We also went to Ronda, passing through the natural park area on the way... beautiful'

About the owner
The official owner of our house in Spain is my daughter for ease of administration when purchasing but as she is a busy TV producer living in London, I take on the care and maintenance and visit with my husband as often as possible. My husband and I are retired and live in a Derbyshire village.
My daughter and I chose the house together and share our use of it.

Why the owner chose a home in this location
My daughter and I fell in love with Guaro when looking for a holiday retreat in Spain. We looked at many coastal apartments, all very similar and on complexes with no centre or anywhere interesting to walk to. Guaro is a pretty village with a pretty square and a choice of small supermarkets and bars, just 20 minutes drive from Marbella and the coast. We loved its atmosphere and location, as we loved our little house with its lovely roof terrace.
My husband and I visit regularly and my daughter when she can leave her busy London life, which is less frequently.

Complete relaxation, great shopping and awesome sight-seeing - so many places to explore! Also the friendliness of this very Spanish village - make sure you take your phrase book!
