Casa Rosina, originally 2 houses built some 200 years ago has been beautifully reformed into a very spacious and stylish home. Set in a tranquil mountain hamlet, it is full of traditional features including hand made terracotta floor tiles, olive and carob beams with Spanish and Moroccan furniture and textiles. The private pool and sun terraces have lovely mountain views. The hamlet is very peaceful and yet is within easy reach (by car) of local restaurants and the bustling town of Periana is only 10 mins away. Malaga and Granada airports are both an hour's drive. The nearest beach is a 25 min drive. The open panoramic views to the mountains and down to the lake and Mediterranean sea are truly breathtaking. With the occasional donkey and herd of goats ambling through the hamlet it is an ideal place to relax and unwind with many good mountain walks.

Notes on accommodation
The house is a spacious restored property on three levels with many charming original features including 200 year old beams, terracotta tiled floors and niche storage spaces. The thick walls keep the house lovely and cool in the summer and cosy during the cooler winer months. All bedrooms and the living room have fans and electric heaters. The spacious lower ground floor ensuite bedroom has its own kitchenette and leads onto the front terrace - it is away from the other 2 bedrooms and is popular with families and groups of friends as it provides a sense of private space. The outside store is well stocked with logs for the wood burning stove. The hamlet is very peaceful with beautiful views to the mountains, lake and sea. There are excellent walks from the house along country tracks and in the nearby national park. The charming white villages of Periana and Alcaucin are only a 10 minute drive away.

Accessibility
The lower twin bedded room has its own entrance through the front terrace which is very near to the car parking area. With its own en suite shower room and kitchenette it is suitable for anyone with minor mobility difficulties.

Outside
The pool measures 6.5m x 2.5m and is surrounded by a terracotta tiled terrace. There are 4 loungers and a large sun umbrella. On the upper terrace there is a large table with 6 chairs and BBQ area and in the height of the summer the fig tree gives welcome shade.
The front terrace has wooden benches, table and and chairs with stunning views down to the sea. There is ample parking space by the house.

Coast/Beach
The nearest beach is at Torre del Mar, 25 mins drive by car, there are long stretches of sand and it has numerous chiringuitos (beach restaurants), cafes and restaurants. There is also a good Thursday open air market. The pretty town of Nerja is some 40 mins drive where you can find a good variety of restaurants, shops and cliffside beaches. The main beach has many water sport activities. Driving east from Nerja there are many lovely unspoilt coves and beaches several with good restaurants.

Golf
Many good golf courses along the Costa del Sol. The nearest to the house is the 18 hole Baviera Golf only 25 mins drive and at Rincon de la Victoria some 30 mins drive. Rounds of golf should be booked in advance and we can help do this for you.

Skiing
The Sierra Navada range above Granada is only one and a half hour's drive and the variety of runs is excellent. The season usually runs from mid/end December - April and it is one of the few places where you can ski in the morning and swim in the afternoon!

Travel
The nearest airport is Malaga, approximately 50 mins drive. Granada airport is 1 hour 10 mins drive. Car hire is essential and we can help book this for you with a reliable company we have used for many of our guests, they meet you at Malaga airport and you are away within 5 mins!

Distances
The nearest village Periana is less than 10 mins drive. It has two supermarkets, a variety of small local shops, banks, a doctor's surgery and two dentists. The pretty white village of Alcaucin is a 12 min drive and there are many traditional hill villages in the area to explore. The wonderful ancient Moorish cities are within easy reach - Granada is an hour's drive, Cordoba one and a half and Seville is a two hour drive. The old spa town of Alhama de Granada is a 30 min drive.

Further details
The area is ideal for hillwalking and there are booklets in the house with details of walks. Tennis courts and horse riding are available nearby and we can also organise day long horse treks in the mountains. Babysitting can be arranged. During the spring and summer months there are many local fiestas in the local towns and villages. There is a daily van delivery in the hamlet where you can buy bread, vegetables and fish. Eroski, the nearest hyper-market, with an excellent choice of everything you could want is a 20 min drive. The recently opened Picasso museum in Malaga is well worth a visit, as is the whole of the old part of the city with an increasing number of excellent restaurants and tapas bars.

Owner profile

About the owner
My husband David and I moved to the mountains of Spain in 2000 and love the relaxed lifestyle in the warmth of Andalucia. We have four dogs all of whom were abandoned and they give us hours of pleasure and sometimes pain when they were puppies! We have made many friends here both northern European and Spanish and have been made to feel very welcome and call Spain our home. We both speak reasonable Spanish which helps with everyday living and makes our life much richer.

Year purchased: 2001

Why the owner chose a home in this location
Having lived in this area of Andalucia we thought it would be a great idea to buy a property which we could rent to visitors to Spain so that they too could enjoy relaxing in the sun or explore the wonderful surrounding area. We have had many very happy guests staying over the past eight years and they love being far from the madding crowd but in easy reach of white villages, good beaches and the ancient Moorish cities of Granada, Cordoba and Seville. The beaches of Nerja and secluded coves further along the coast make for a great day out. Not to be missed for those of us who like a bit of pampering are the luxurious Moorish hammams in Granada, Cordoba and Malaga.

Unique benefits of the property
Living only 15 minutes from Casa Rosina we are always on hand to give advice about where to go, places to eat and information about the local fiestas. We can help with booking of a hire car at reasonable rates and the company we have dealt with over the past 8 years are very reliable. They meet our guests in the arrivals hall at Malaga airport and within 5 minutes you will be away - avoiding the long and hot queues. 2 hairdryers and all towels and bedding are provided making for more space and lighter suitcases! For the 2010 season there will be internet access in the house. We can arrange for our guests to have a spa day with a relaxing massage or reflexology session at the highly qualified practitioner's own home.
