Notes on accommodation
Children are most certainly very welcome , - the house is equipped with a selection of toys and children's DVDs, but parents of very young children may wish to be warned that there are several flights of stairs down through the garden and an open staircase in the living room. The pool area however is securely separated behind a gate and we have spent many a fabulous holiday with our own children here when they were young.

Outside
A series of delightful terracotta garden terraces tumble down below and behind the house. The main upper terrace is an idyllic place to enjoy alfresco outdoor life, Spanish style. Built around a mature lemon tree this terrace consists of two dining / sitting areas. A timber pergola with Moroccan arches overlooks the pool below, a place to spend hot afternoons dosing in one of the hammocks or enjoying a long lunch in the shade around the rustic oak dining table. There is also another open seating area perfect for when the heat of the sun has subsided and the barbecue is lit! Steps lead from here down to the gated, private swimming pool area. The gated, curved pool (approx. 8 x 4m) is designed to allow one to swim beneath a beautiful arching palm tree and it's surrounding flower beds. Sunloungers and outdoor seating are provided and you can choose between improving your tan on the sun terrace or escaping from the mid-day heat courtesy of the ample shade provided by a mature fig tree.

Coast/Beach
The nearest beach is only 30 minutes away in pleasant and quiet Sabinillas. The unspeautiful Atlantic beaches and sand dunes of Tarifa are 75 minutes away. Day trips to Morocco from Tarifa also .

Golf
Many courses nearby on the Costa Del Sol 30 minutes away.

Travel
Malaga airport 90 minutes by car and Gibraltar is an hour . Car hire recommended.

Distances
Beautiful Spanish historic town of Ronda is only 40 minutes drive away and the historic cities of Seville, Granada and Jerez are all about 2 hours drive. The costa Del Luz with ferries to Morocco and Fantastic unspoilt Atlantic beaches of Tarifa is 75 minutes away by car. The nearest beach is 30 minutes away whilst the costa Del sol resort of Marbella is only 45 minutes.

Further details
There is plenty to do in the surrounding area. Ideal for hiking and nature lovers, the white village of Gaucin sits at the head of the stunning Genal valley where many other historic white villages can be explored. Gaucin has numerous Tapas bars, shops, and restaurants. There are several food shops and a supermarket and two banks. Gaucin is in the heart of Andalucian traditions and there is a Flamenco festival in July, a summer ferria in August and an annual fiesta bull run every Easter. Historic towns and cities of Seville , Jerez, Granada, Malaga and Ronda are all close enough to explore.

Thank you for making your house so perfect for us.. a true home from home but with a view to die for - Mr and Mrs Buttall, Herts

Just thought we’d drop you a note to say how much we enjoyed our week in your beautiful house. The garden is stunning and we loved the style and furnishings in the interior of the house as well. When you add all that to the views of Gibraltar and beyond it’s a fantastic combination. Erika and Jim were both very helpful when we had a slight problem with the lock on the front door and it was quickly sorted. And Erika has just posted my son’s ipod back to us after he left it down the side of a chair in the house! In fact we found everyone we met to be very friendly and helpful. The whole village has a lovely ambience. Nice restaurants too! - Mr S. Mott

We Had a fabulous holiday in Spain. We loved your villa and the village of Gaucin and may well see you again. - Mrs A Tull , Canterbury

About the owner
My wife and I love to be inspired and travel is a big part what makes us tick. I am a Garden Designer and my wife is a Jewellery Designer. We are parents and both love travel, art and design. We also have a deep passion for rural Spain, it's culture and in particular, Andalucia. We love the dramatic landscape, the food , the culture, the tranquility and of course the sunshine. We love to travel and the sense of adventure within the fact that Morocco is just a short hop away from here. We find the Moorish influences in the region fascinating and deeply inspiring . As such, we love to take the ferry over to Tangier and travel to the Riff mountains. Adventure is never very far away as is our relaxing pool .

Year purchased: 1999

Why the owner chose a home in this location
It has been a dream of ours to build a house in an exciting foreign location. Gaucin is certainly that, the views, the sunshine and the charm of the village and the people, all make this a perfect escape. This house of ours is a result of that dream. Our mountain top retreat from the real world, a little paradise that reflects our passions of travel, art and interiors. I am a garden designer and the garden and pool that we have created here is our version of a Mediterranean Eden. We enjoy our home comforts but where better to put them than on top of a mountain where we can gaze at Africa from our living room terrace!

Unique benefits of the property
The house being in the heart of the village is convenient for wandering the streets and tapas bars of Gaucin, but it also is a haven of tranquility and to spend an afternoon lounging and reading by the pool or dining out under the stars is as peaceful as any afternoon in the countryside. We also love to visit the historic towns of Ronda ( only half an hour away ), Seville, Granada and Cordoba. When it comes to beaches, the nearest is only half an hour away, but our favourite beach probably in the world is an hour away at Tarifa, unspoilt expanses of Atlantic dune backed beaches with the beautiful, quirky ancient salt battered town itself, it is a delight. From Tarifa, we often take the hydrofoil ferry across to Morocco, only a half hour crossing, but another world away.
