Close to Fuengirola and the 'white village' of Mijas Pueblo, it stands on a hill overlooking the coast with views up to the mountains. It is situated in a well established residential area, within walking distance of local restaurants and shops, and only 3km from the beach and the bustling town of Fuengirola, to which there is a regular bus service. Free broadband internet access available.

Changeover day
Changeover is flexible, but checkout by 10am normally. We recognise that weekend flights are more expensive, and most people prefer a Tuesday changover.

All rooms have cool marble floors. All bedrooms have ceiling fans.
Accessibility
Although wheelchair users have stayed here happily in the past, we must point out that the villa stands on four floors, and we cannot recommend it for wheelchair users.
Outside
The heated pool is surrounded by loungers and there are plenty of chairs, tables and parasols for alfresco dining. The pool is approx 10 x 3m (2.5m deep at the deep end, 1.5m at the shallow end) and has a hot and cold shower. There are two further terraces in the well established gardens shaded by orange, lemon, avocado, fig olive and palm trees, together with colourful and scented flowers and climbers (jasmine, bougainvillea, dame del noche etc). In addition, the 'Community pool' is nearby, if you want to meet other people / children, both holiday makers and locals.
Coast/Beach
Fuengirola beaches can be reached in 40 minutes by foot, but is only 5 minutes drive (3 kms). There is a regular bus service. These are safe family beaches with lifeguards, and EU Blue Flag rating. Some have loungers/parasols. others are free.
10 minutes drive will take you to La Cala beach, with its beachfront restaurants, which is smaller and less crowded. Torremolinos with its lively beachfront bars is 20 minutes drive, and there are various coves on the way there.
Golf
Mijas Golf (Los Olivos and Los Lagos) is about 5 minutes drive from the villa. There are many other golf courses nearby (eg La Cala, Alheurin, etc).
Travel
Malaga airport is 27 kms, approx 20 minutes drive. Taxis can be taken to the villa (approx €35), and a train service goes regularly from the airport to Fuengirola, from where taxis are readily available for the 5 minute ride to the villa. Car hire is recommended but is not essential.

Mijas pueblo ('white village'), 3 kms. Fuengirola beach and town, 3 kms. Malaga (interesting city, alcazar), 35 kms. Granada (Alhambra), 160 kms. Seville (Alcazar), 250 kms. Ronda (Gorge & bullring), 90 kms. Gibraltar (Fortifications and caves), 110 kms. Nerja (Caves), 90 kms.
Further details
3 good restaurants within 5 minutes walk, a fourth with attached sports bar 10 minutes walk. Local shops, small supermarket with good meat, pharmacy and cafe/bakery, hairdresser and takeaway pizzeria and tapas bars, 5 minutes walk. Further tapas bars, restaurants and banks within 15 minutes walk. El Corte Ingles store 20 minutes walk, 5 minutes drive. 3 large supermarkets within 5 minutes drive or 20 minutes walk. Many of the supermarkets will deliver shopping free of charge (minimum spend about 65 euros).
Fuengirola has shops, cinemas, waterpark, zoo, theatre, churches, a mosque, and markets. The numerous bars and restaurants cater for those wanting a typically Spanish experience as well as some good English, Chinese, Thai and Indian fare. The Myramar shopping mall is 10 minutes away where you can do your weekly food shop or spend the entire day browsing around over thirty shops located in the complex, having a tapas lunch or go to the multi cineplex. The water park is not too far away (open mid April to October).

25% deposit is required to secure booking. Balance 6 weeks before arrival. A £300 refundable breakages deposit is required with the balance.

About the owner
Eileen and I retired six years ago, and live mainly in Crystal Palace, South London. We spend a number of weeks in the villa each year both off season and in June. The attraction of Fuengirola and Mijas is that they are towns in their own right with Spanish residents, and do not die off in the non-summer months. We now speak passable Spanish! We enjoy playing tennis and golf, but also lazing by the pool. The vast selection of tapas bars is a fun way of spending an evening, and there is a good selection of more "upmarket" restaurants.

Why the owner chose a home in this location
We wanted to buy a villa where we could spend time with friends and family, and occasionally rent out. We started looking north of Nerja, but were put off by the black sand of the volcanic beaches. So we drove south until we found attractive golden sands – and we were in Fuengirola. In our search for the ideal home we saw many, some too small, or overlooked, or noisy. Eventually we found Villa Pilar – and were enchanted by the panoramic views, and the tranquillity. Yet it is not far from bars and restaurants, and close to Fuengirola and Mijas. We needed to make changes to it to develop it into the home we wanted. But we now have a home that we can be happy in at any time of the year – a break from the English winter (which can be so depressing) or a summer holiday.
Unique benefits of the property
Being on a hill overlooking Fuengirola, the villa benefits from cooling summer breezes, and is away from the crowds. However it is within walking distance of the centre and beach (though the walk back is challenging! - better take a bus, taxi or drive).
