The old muleteers house is the last of 3 houses down a small, pedestrian cul-de-sac. Juan, the old boy next door, was born and raised here along with his 9 brothers and sisters, 2 mules, several pigs, a goat and some chickens! The cottage funnily enough looks a bit different now as we did an extensive restoration 4 years ago. Wanting to maintain as much of the original charm as possible, downstairs you’ll see the original floor tiles and oak beams, whilst upstairs feels much more modern and slick. There’s a huge double bedroom with double patio doors opening onto a sun terrace with 180 degree views of the valley and the mountains beyond. Downstairs is a smaller bedroom, great for kids, which also has its own bathroom. Tiger the owner is a freelance walking guide so can be called on to show you some of the best routes in the area. Otherwise there is a collection of self-guided route notes for you to do your own exploring around this magnificent and historic corner of Spain.

Bedrooms: Upstairs there is a huge double bedroom filled with light and with its own en-suite bathroom. Double French windows open onto a beautiful sun terrace.
Downstairs is a twin bedroom, great for kids, also en-suite.
Bathrooms: Upstairs is en-suite with a lovely big bathtub where you can lie and enjoy the view.
Bathroom downstairs (used to be the pig shed!) has great shower, lots of pressure and hot water to soak away the aches of your day’s walking!
Kitchen: Open plan kitchen/dining room, gas cooker, washing machine, good sized fridge/freezer and pretty pottery to eat off. Place mats and candles for the table - feels just like home!
Living Rooms: Lots of good books to read, comfy sofas, great wood burner, CD player to listen to some of your favourite tunes (or some of ours!) Afternoon sun comes streaming through the window onto one of the sofas where you can lie like a cat curled up with a book.
Cleaning/towels/
linen/maid service:
The cottage is cleaned once a week so you have fresh linen and towels. We do ask guests to bring their own beach towels for the sun loungers.

Notes on accommodation
We ask our guests not to smoke upstairs. Small dogs are allowed (not on the sofas!) but please check in advance.

Not really suitable for elderly or disabled due to stairs and slopes.

Outside
Off the main bedroom is a wonderfully private sun terrace. Downstairs is another more shaded patio with a barbeque - ideal for alfresco dining.

Coast/Beach
We are 1 hour from the Mediterranean coast and 2 hours from Tarifa and the costa del sol. Having said that we doubt you will want to go to the beach as there is so much to explore up in the mountains.

Golf
We don't think this area would really appeal to golfers.

Special interest holidays
Whether you choose to explore your surroundings on foot, horse back or mountain bike, it can all be arranged!

Travel
Hiring your own car is strongly recommended as public transport is somewhat sporadic!

Distances
We are 2 hours from Malaga airport, 2 hours from Seville, 2 hours from Jerez and 1½ hour from Gibraltar.

Further details
Looking at our guest book over the last few years many of our visitors have commented on how comfortable and homely the cottage feels. We ourselves sometimes spend a weekend up there if it’s empty and it’s a real treat! As further proof of what a lovely house it is you can find us listed with the Alistair Sawday ‘Special Places to Stay in Spain’. With regard to the area - we have lived in Andalucia for 10 years now and have done a lot of travelling and walking in other parts of the region. Whilst sounding entirely biased this area is without doubt the most stunning and geographically varied that you will find. We are surrounded by protected land so there is no cultivation and very little development - drive 1 hour in any direction and you will find jaw-droppingly beautiful scenery everywhere you look. But don´t just take my word for it - come and see for yourselves!
