Beautiful modern house to rent, comfortably and stylishly furnished for up to ten people. Living room, swimming-pool and terrace have spectacular views of the sea, the exquisite walking country of the national park and Cap de Creus lighthouse. The house is 25 minutes' walk from the charming, unspoilt fishing village of Cadaques and 15 minutes' walk from Dali's fascinating house at Port Lligat. Wild flowers are everywhere in Spring, with lavender, rosemary, cistus, succulents, olive and pine trees in abundance, and many lovely small bays for swimming in. The quality of the light is magical and the area attracts artists, writers, walkers and families and is great for scuba-diving, sailing, cycling, wind-surfing, kayaking and water-skiing. Cadaques has a number of restaurants that are very good and reasonably priced, some delightful clothes and gift shops and wonderful walks south over the headland to Roses. Other great walks go from the house to wild, rocky Cap de Creus and beyond.

Notes on accommodation
Under-floor heating for the cooler months. Back terrace and path onto which the 4 pool-level bedrooms open; they also have a door onto a bedroom-wing corridor which is lined with huge glass sliding doors that can open straight onto the pool terrace. Children must be watched around the pool as there is no safety fence. Many exterior doors and windows have shutters. All bedrooms have reading lamps and dimmable spotlights.
Accessibility
The entrance to the house is up a path with three shallow steps; wheelchair users would need help here, and also in the shower rooms, because the shower has a lip that cannot be wheeled straight into. Otherwise, the pool level floor where 4 bedrooms, shower rooms, the kitchen and living-dining areas are, is all on one level. The media room in the basement, and the 5th bedroom, are down a flight of internal stairs, or can be reached by going down the garage drive to the basement.
Outside
The swimming pool is large and private and has a small wall fountain. It is not heated. The garden is terraced, with walls faced with the beautiful local stone; the paths through the garden are raked earth with wooden steps or stone steps in places, between the levels. Terraces are planted with olive and pine trees, oleanders and other shrubs, lavender, thyme, lantana and many succulents. There is a watering system in place so that the plants retain their colourfulness and greenness through the summer months. The high bank at the back of the house has been left as a wild-flower bank and is not watered. The terrace on the pool level has a large table and 12 chairs for outside dining, and there are 4 sun-loungers and 2 parasols. The smaller patio at the back, outside the kitchen, has a table to seat 8, 8 chairs and a parasol. There are pots with clipped box balls on the terrace, 2 further pots filled with succulents, and various other pots including 3 citrus trees at the side and back.
Coast/Beach
Three small beaches are between 5-10 minutes walk. The drive from the house to Cap de Creus lighthouse takes 20 minutes, or one and a half hour's walk, and passes many small bays. The beaches are pebbly and the coast is rocky and full of olive trees and rosemary, lavender and other wild plants. There are a restaurant, bar and little museum at Cap de Creus and walks from there to Port de la Selva.
Travel
Car hire is essential as the nearest airport, Girona, is between one and a quarter to 1½ hour's drive away. Perpignan airport, in France, is about 2 hours' drive.
Distances
Cadaques is 5 minutes' drive or 20-25 minutes walk. Port Lligat and Dali's beach house are 15 minutes walk. Figueres, the town in which Dali's fascinating museum stands, is 55km / about 50 minutes drive. There are Greco-Roman ruins at Empuries on the coast, 50 minutes drive south of Cadaques, and many pottery and antique shops at La Bisbal d'Emporda, near Girona. The old town of Girona is well worth visiting, beautifully restored and with lovely shops and cafes in the Ramblas.
Further details
A restaurant in Cadaques, Casa Nun, has a wonderful ambiance and delicious Catalan food. Another restaurant, Can Shelabi, has a good Moroccan menu, and there is an excellent fish restaurant called La Sirena. The oldest part of Cadaques is full of steep cobbled streets and tiny shops, great for exploring; there are some nice clothes shops, lots of little cafes for hanging out in, a delicious bakery/patisserie called Es Fornet near the harbour. The bay of Cadaques is still a fishing bay, with the fishing boats on the shore; small cruising boats take tourists out up the coast; and in the summer yachts are moored there also. There are 2 good local supermarkets in the village, a health food shop in the old town and a bank. One of the local hotels, the Rocamar, has an excellent restaurant, open to non-residents, and a fantastic view over the bay.
