This fully-equipped two bed apartment is located in a secure community in Capileira, one of the highest villages in Spain. Facing south you can enjoy the unspeakable beauty of the landscape with goats grazing early in the morning to eagles soaring at evening. The Alpujarra is amazing. Even as shadows lengthen, one by one the village houses flicker into existence until finally all those present answer the twinkling roll-call and the mountainside reflects the starry sky. In keeping with the national park status of the area the apartment, although recently built, maintains a traditional exterior. And if you can drag yourself away from the terrace vistas you'll find yourself in a modern home, well equipped for comfortable living through the diverse seasons which make these Spanish mountains such a special place to stay.

Coast/Beach
The beach at Salobrena is 50km (45 mins) drive away on the Costa del Sol or for those requiring more privacy La Herradura just along the coast. Capileira is also an excellent base to discover the Alpujarrean mountains on foot, all routes well marked. There is a bus service in summer which delivers hikers to the Mirador de Trevelez from where those fit enough trek to the top of Mulhacen, the highest mountain in Spain at 3445 (11400ft) metres.

Skiing
The ski area Sol y Nieve at Pradollano is on the other side of the Sierra Nevada. It opens in December and closes at end of season in March. Pradollano is around 90 minutes drive from Capileira.

Special interest holidays
The nearest airport is Granada at 80km just over an hour's drive. Or alternatively Malaga is two and a half hours south. Buses run from Granada bus station to Capileira, three times a day - so although a car is not essential, I would recommend hiring one as it gives you the opportunity to explore the mountains further east, travel to the beach or visit culturally rich Granada and the Alhambra palace.

Distances
The apartment is located in Capileira, the most famous and popular of the white-washed villages of the Poquiera gorge. It has a museum and the warren of narrow streets strewn with fountains and flowers year round is an adventure in itself. There are over twenty bars/restaurants, accommodating all tastes from pizzas to traditional Spanish to vegetarians. A pharmacy, medical clinic and mountain rescue are also at hand should you require their services.

Further details
The village has three supermarkets and a vegetable market on Tuesdays when locals descend on the church square to barter and banter. Artesan shops line the main streets and sell the typical carpets and leatherwares of the region.

Booking notes
All bookings will be confirmed by e-mail on receipt of a 50% deposit (by bank transfer in euros). The outstanding balance is due 4 weeks before start of stay.
