Further details
Perched below the ruins of a Moorish castle, at a height of over 650m, Gaucin is one of the most attractive of the pueblos blancos, 'white villages', of the Serrania de Ronda. Its lofty position affords it marvellous views, across olive and almond groves, especially south to Gibraltar and beyond to the Moroccan coast in Africa. Cosmopolitan, yet retaining its Spanish feel, Gaucin has many small shops as well as four larger 'supermarkets', a delicatessen and an excellent, well-stocked shop selling organic produce. There is a good selection of tapas bars and there are occasional live Flamenco performances in the area.
As one of the larger villages in the Serrania, Gaucin offers more facilities than most; in addition to the food shops and tapas bars there are several restaurants, an award-winning vineyard, a butchers, a bakery, a chemist, two internet cafes, a post-office, a medical centre, a small daily market, two antique shops and two banks with ATMs. The local swimming pool is open July through August and there is a free-to-use municipal tennis court; massages, beauty treatments and a range of alternative therapies can be arranged locally. Everything is within walking distance, around the winding streets of whitewashed houses, and the pace of life is still relaxingly slow.
The surrounding area is wonderful, too, apart from the many towns and villages to explore there are mountains, lakes, caves, forests, birds, wildflowers (best in Spring), as well as walking, riding, swimming, tennis, etc. The Serrania de Ronda, attractively adorned with vast swathes of cork oak and sweet-chestnut woods, has three protected national parks, Sierra de Las Nieves, Sierra Grazalema and Los Alcornocales, and the reserve of Coto Doñana, home to the iconic Iberian Lynx, is less than 3hrs away. With the stunning natural environment, and a multitude of cultural festivals and events occurring throughout the year across the region, there is always something to do when staying in Gaucin!

Guest comments
Excellent week in Gaucin, really enjoyed it. The Villa was exceptional, and Gaucin itself lovely. NR, Sep 2012

We had a lovely time...in spite of the weather. The villa was everything we wanted and more. The log fires were the saving grace considering how cold it was. P, Nov 2012
