Notes on accommodation

Accessibility
The property offers one disabled apartment and the restaurant, bar and garden areas are fully wheelchair accessible.
Outside
There are gardens with seating/dining and sunbathing areas with a separate large swimming pool. We also have a children's play area, football and tennis courts. The extensive grounds offer numerous footpaths from gentle strolls to more strenuous hikes and the views are unrivalled. The bar, with indoor and outdoor seating areas, offers the perfect setting in which to take in the amazing sunsets whilst enjoying a pre-dinner drink with our complementary tapas.
The restaurant, popular with the local Spanish, offers home cooked traditional Andalusian and Alpujarran dishes made with our home grown organic fruit and vegetable.
Our gardener is passionately dedicated to lovingly looking after and cultivating our vegetables, all of which are grown naturally and in harmony with the earth. In season, you are welcome to pick any of the fruits that we have on offer on our land: grapes, olives, walnuts, chestnuts, figs, almonds, pears, apples and blackberries.
Coast/Beach
The coast is situated approximately one and a half hours drive from the Cortijo with the nearest resort being Salobrena, a historic hilltop village complete with Moorish Fort. The more modern but low key coastal development offers numerous bars and restaurants fronting the large, clean, wide beaches. Further beaches are located just outside the village, backed by plantations of sugar cane.
Skiing
The Cortijo is located approximately one and a half hours from the main ski resorts of the Sierra Nevada. This makes a great winter day trip for skiers and non-skiers alike as the resort also offers sledge hire and winter walking.
Travel
The most convenient airports are Granada (One and a half hours), Almeria (two hours) and Malaga (two and a half hours). A car is essential for this property as it is not served by public transport.
Distances
The nearby village of Torvizcon (10km) has a selection of bars, restaurants and shops. The travelling market visits on the 1st and 16th of every month with a selection of clothing, plants, nuts and olives etc. For a wider range of shops and a bustling Thursday market, the town of Orgiva is just 20kms away. Granada (1.5 hours) offers the historical Jewish and Arabic quarters, flamenco in the gypsy quarter and the caves of Sacromento as well as the amazing Alhambra Palace.
Further details
The charm of La Alpujarra is in the unchanging character of its areas, its villages and its people, which take us back to an era when rushing around did not exist and simplicity was the norm.
Set within the Sierra Nevada Park, declared by UNESCO to be an area of biospheric conservation in 1986, as well as a Natural park in 1989, it was recently in 1999, awarded the category of National Park. The Alpujarren landscapes and the silence that characterizes them, encourage solitude and contemplation in their visitors.
Diverse alternative communities, artists, writers, musicians and crats people have all found their own particular paradise in La Alpujarra.
Explore this unique area by one of the following -
Walking and Hiking: A network of long distance and local paths make on foot exploration of the beauties of the local area a joy. Ranging from short village circuits to the GR7 which runs from Algeciras to Athens, there is something to suit everyone. Alternatively, guided tours of durations varying from 1 day to 2 weeks are also available.
4 x 4 Sierra Nevada Tours: You can also explore the national Park in an all terrain vehicle with driver/guide.
Mountain Biking: Includes bicycle and accessory hire with guides available.
Horse Riding: Treks of 2, 3 or 4 hours, 1 day or weekend for all levels of ability. Stabling for your own horse is also available at the Cortijo.
La Alpujarra also offers a wealth of options for holistic therapies and personal growth. These include yoga, meditation, massage, tai chi, crystal healing, spiritual development, Indian head massage and reflexology.
The area also boasts many picturesque and historical villages to visit. Try the three quaint villages of the Poquiera Gorge or Trevelez, the highest village in Spain famous for it's cured hams dried in the pure mountain air.
