Selborne has established an international reputation and is now regarded as one of South Africa’s most sought after golfing venues. Monkeys, deer and a myriad of birds take advantage of the natural habitat of the lush foliage, indigenous trees and stately palms that add an aura of grandeur to the well-preserved and cared for environment. Situated on the tropical South coast of KwaZulu Natal, 40 minutes south of Durban, Selborne is a picturesque and challenging golf course. Our home in the Turnberry development is a 3 bedroom duplex situated in the centre of the golf course, where the buildings form an unobtrusive part of the golf course. The house is available for short term holiday lets and well as long term lets for those seeking to escape the northern winter.

We have no preferred changeover day and can be as flexible is required subject to other bookings.
Accommodation description
Bedrooms:
There are two upstairs bedrooms with en-suite bathrooms.
The master bedroom contains a king size bed, the other is configured as a twin bedroom.
The third bedroom downstairs is a twin with bathroom en-suite.
Bathrooms:
Master bathroom has en-suite bathroom with shower, bath and wc.
Bedrooms 2 and 3 have en-suite shower rooms with wc.
A separate guest wc is located downstairs.
Kitchen:
The fully equipped kitchen contains all modern appliances including a large fridge/freezer, electric oven and cooker, microwave, dishwasher, washing machine, dryer, coffee maker and toaster.
Living Rooms:
The house is configured over two floors with communal living space downstairs.
The family room is equipped with a large plasma TV with DVD player with full DSTV satellite TV. The dining room has seating for 8 people.
Other:
Out on the patio, which faces the communal swimming pool, is a built-in BBQ facility and outdoor lounge suite for lazing outside. A garage is available behind the house along with an enclosed outdoor area for hanging out washing if required.
Cleaning/Towels/
linen/maid service:
The villa is cleaned between lets with clean towels and bedlinen provided. There is a standard maid service once a week. A full maid service can be arranged on a daily basis if required. All maid services are not included in the daily rate.

Children are welcome in our home. We regret no smoking is allowed in the house. Due to the wildlife on the estate, pets are not allowed.

About the area
Accessibility
The downstairs bedroom is suitable for those who might find climbing stairs a problem. There is a downstairs guest toilet as well.
Outside
Our home leads directly onto the communal gardens of the Turnberry development with the communal swimming pool about 20m from the house. The pool is not heated. The outdoor BBQ allows for barbecuing in private and communal BBQ facilities are also available at the pool. The golf clubhouse is situated about 500m from the house and the Selborne Hotel is a few minutes walk away.
Coast/Beach
Selborne is situated in the village of Pennington on the south coast of KwaZulu Natal. In the village, 5 minutes from the house by car, are beach facilities belonging to Selborne which including a pool and restaurant (open during the peak summer months only) for exclusive use of Selborne residents. Nearby is the public beach and local shops. There are beautiful public beaches along the entire coastal area offering something for everyone.
Golf
The best golf to be had in the area will be on your doorstep. The golf course is featured on the South African Sunshine Professional tour and is a challenging 18 hole course.
The South Coast of KwaZulu-Natal is also home to the Golf Coast, the hidden gem of golf destinations in Africa. All the courses in the area are unique and the furthest away is still within an hours drive of Selborne.
These courses include: Umkomaas Golf Club, Scottburgh Golf Club, Umdoni Park Golf Course, San Lameer Country Club, Wild Coast Country Club, Port Shepstone Country Club, Margate Country Club, Southbroom Golf Club.
How to get there
We do recommend you hire a car during your stay at the estate. Pennington is 100km from the new Durban International Airport and the drive takes roughly one hour dependent on traffic.
Distances
For more shopping variety, the larger town of Scottburgh is a 10 minute drive away and larger malls of Galleria (Amanzimtoti) and South Coast Mall (Shelley Beach) are 50 km away, about a 30 minute drive.
Further Details
If you don’t fancy eating at home or driving anywhere there are a number of dining options from fine dining in the elegant a la carte restaurant at the Selborne Hotel to casual alfresco breakfasts and lunches at the hotel or golf clubhouse. A few minutes away, located within a local indigenous nursery right next to Selborne, is the Yellowood nursery which is an outstanding breakfast and lunch venue for all the family.
Located within the hotel is a spa offering a variety of treatments where you can indulge yourself in a restful and relaxing environment.
Diving at the Aliwal Shoal (10 minute drive from Selborne).
Selected as one of the top ten dive sites in the world by Diver Magazine, the shoal is a definite must. During the months of June through November you are sure to see the Ragged Tooth sharks as they congregate on the shoal to mate. It is not uncommon to find 15 to 150 of these ferocious looking but docile animals on a single dive. In summer you have every chance of seeing huge Tiger sharks and Hammerheads.
Kwazulu Natal has an astonishing array of wildlife. The province offers varied wildlife experiences ranging from wilderness trails in the Umfolozi Game reserve (4 hours north of Selborne) to sitting quietly in a hide at the Mkuze Game reserve watching the natural world parade past. The immediate area has 9 nature reserves and one established game reserve at Oribi Gorge. Close to Selborne is the Vernon Crooks Nature Reserve where you will find larger antelope and smaller wildlife but which is well known for its flora and extensive birdlife.

About the Owner
My husband Brian and I live in Dubai with our daughter Katie and a cat called Readymix (don't ask!). We bought the house off-plan in 2006 shortly after Katie was born. We were looking for a second home we could use to escape the ferociously hot summers here in the UAE.

Why this location?
Why the south coast? Because for us it remains one of the most unspoiled coastal areas in South Africa. Life is a slow there as it has always been, the weather is fabulous all year round, the beaches are magnificent and lastly we just loved the golf course at Selborne where the house is located.
