Notes on accommodation
Well behaved pets could be accepted (additional refundable deposit required). Suitable for children (those under 12 must be supervised at all times in the pool). Smoking in house not acceptable but possible in garden. Disability access possible as most rooms are downstairs (but doors are standard width)

Accessibility
Guests could use the downstairs only if stairs are a problem, as 2 of the bedrooms (1 double fully en-suite, 1 fully en-suite twin) are downstairs, as is the kitchen, dining room and garden access.

Outside
There is an attractive rear garden with patio area (table, chairs, sun umbrella, barbeque) which is accessed from bedroom 1 and from open plan dining area. 2 sunbeds. Very sunny as it is north-facing (think about it...), and mountains can be seen. There are several shared pools of varying sizes that can be used, the nearest being about 60m away from the front door. There is a garage, and an additional parking space on the driveway.

Coast/Beach
The house overlooks beautiful Sunrise Beach, which is about 4 mins walk along a boardwalk over the dunes. There are several other beaches within easy reach (St. James, Fish Hoek, Muizenberg) - several minutes drive to the nearest. Whales populate the coastline from around June - Nov.

Golf
There are a number of excellent golf courses within about 15 mins - Steenberg, Clovelly, Royal Cape, West Lake.

Travel
Car hire is essential anywhere in South Africa. Cape Town International Airport is about 30 minutes drive. I can recommend a less expensive option than the big international car hire firms if you would like (the people I always use).

Distances
There is so much to do in this area of Cape Town! Muizenberg is a couple of minutes drive, Kalk Bay (with attractive shops, bars, well known restaurants overlooking the harbour and impressive waves, seals, boats) is 10 mins drive. The wonderful winelands are easily accessible along the beautiful coast road (about 30 - 40 mins drive). Cape Point is about 40 mins drive the other way down the coast, passing Boulders Bay with its penguins, Simon's Town. 25 mins drive to the City. Local coast train.

Further details
There are several useful shops/laundry/bar/surgery/DVD hire/ATM/take-away food outlet just outside the village security gates - a 1 minute walk. Otherwise the nearest big supermarket is 4 or 5 mins drive. There is a large shopping mall 12 mins drive away, and excellent shops/restaurants/bars and places to sit and gaze at fishing boats coming in, seals playing etc in Kalk Bay (10 mins). There is a very good tourist information bureau in Muizenberg (4 or 5 mins drive) and interesting shops hidden away. There are several small museums locally, and two theatres. The nearest cinema is at the shopping mall. On Sundays there is the local 'flea market' just down the road, and in the summer months a wonderful fruit stall every day. Fresh fish are often sold on another local stall - and South African fish are just so delicious! Kirstenbosch botanic gardens are about 20 minutes drive, and well worth a visit (and they have marvellous Sunday afternoon 'sunset' concerts in the summer months).

My local agent, who lives a few doors down the road, also runs a tour company so is a great source of information about where to go and what to do to make the very best of your time. My neighbours are all just lovely, and will always offer advice.

A deposit of 20% is payable on booking (refundable if the booking is cancelled 3 months prior to due date). Full payment should be made 8 weeks before dates arranged. Please contact me for details.

Owner profile

Me in my English garden, not the CT one I prefer!

About the owner
My name is Susie, my age is best kept secret, and I live in that smallest of all UK counties, Rutland, with an exceptionally enthusiastic Jack Russell. Well, I live here at any time that I can't find a good excuse to live in my favourite place on the planet - Cape Town. I selected the picture of me in my English garden as I couldn't find a recent one of me in my much loved South African garden (an exciting challenge, to grow plants at a regular distance of some 6,000 miles - having totally wonderful neighbours helps a lot). My two adult children love Cape Town as much as I do, and I'm delighted to say arrive frequently when I am over there, often armed with assorted friends. My friends tend to feel a sudden urge to see me at just the times I am in CT too.

Year purchased: 2002

Why the owner chose a home in this location
I wandered down the steps of a plane when going for a spontaneous holiday in February 2002, fell instantly in love with everything about the truly wonderful city of Cape Town and brought my house off-plan before going home (no, home feels more like CT!) 18 days later.... Buying the house in the location I selected was so easy: right by the ocean, in a place equi-distant from all the best bits of this magical place and with its own sunny garden and the shared pool. I did get a tad impatient waiting for it to actually be built, but once I got back to CT to sign it off I realised it had been well worth every second. I was so ecstatically happy that apparently I emailed all manner of OTT emails across the world. The other great thing is that I feel totally safe here, on my own or not.

Unique benefits of the property
Where to start? Glorious sunshine, endless things of beauty to gaze at (from flowers to mountains to views to whales and so on and on), wonderful food and wine at great prices, excellent theatres all over the place, fantastic trips to make in all directions (but Hermanus, the winelands and Route 62 are my favourites so far - so many more to make!) and best of all some of the most friendly people on earth. So kind, generous and welcoming. My house started out as a cosy holiday home, but at some point when my concentration lapsed my son persuaded me - without undue effort, admittedly - to double the size. Now I have a beautiful, airy, open house with 3 double bedrooms/bathrooms. As the lovely builder kept saying - 'you've got 4 loos in one house Mam'! Hope you visit to enjoy it all.
