Notes on accommodation
Every unit can accommodate additional children under 12 years on airbeds or mattresses at no extra cost.
All of the units are thermally insulated and remain cool even under the African summer sun and there are electric heaters provided for the cooler evenings in the winter. They are all child friendly, although Aviary does have a small Koi pond with a water feature, but there is grate available to cover this to prevent inquisitive little people doing some unaccompanied paddling with the fish!

Accessibility
Mountain Vista is located in a flat area so you will not have to worry about climbing mountainous roads. Bird's View is accessed via a spiral stone staircase so is not ideal for those with limited mobility, similarly, all the sleeping accommodation in Flamingo House is located on the upper level accessed via a stone spiral staircase. Aviary on the other hand is on ground floor level with no access restrictions.

Outside
Each unit has its own private outside dining area with BBQ facilities. In the cases of Aviary and Bird's View, these are gas fuelled - Flamingo house has a traditional South African built in braai. The garden is mainly lawn and slopes gently down into the Rietvlei Nature Reserve. As well as Flamingo, Pelican, Fish Eagles and Guinea Fowl you will often see the local deer, or buck as they are known in South Africa, running around the bottom of the garden. The garden is stocked with indigenous trees and shrubs that provide year round colour as well as lemon trees that produce a prodigious amount of fruit - please help yourself to the lemons. Ample protected storage is provided to the side of Flamingo house for bicycles, kite-surfing and wind-surfing equipment. Parking is provided to the front of the house in the double garage with room for off street parking for a further 6 cars if you are travelling as a party.

Coast/Beach
Blouberg beach/restaurants/bars 5 mins. Cape Wine Route 10 mins. Cape Town business district 20 mins. Cape Town Waterfront 20 mins. Table Mountain 20 mins. Cape Town international airport 25 mins. Famous beaches of Clifton and Camps Bay 40 mins.

Golf
The surrounding area is peppered with good quality pay and play courses to suit all abilities. Challenging links courses down towards Cape Point will test all players with the more sheltered courses of Milnerton and Atlantic Beach providing a less daunting test. Golf courses are all of a very high standard and are considerably cheaper than in Europe - expect to pay between £10 - £15 per round.

Skiing
Cape Town is not famous for its snow but the Milnerton Aquatic Club is a 2 min drive from Mountainvista which has excellent water-skiing, sailing and wind-surfing facilities, linked by an extremely friendly atmosphere.

Special interest holidays
The most difficult aspect of your stay at Birdwatcher will be deciding what to do first. It is an adrenalin junky's playground, whether it’s kite-surfing at Blouberg beach, rock climbing in Franschoek, shark diving in Hout Bay or skydiving at the drop zone 10 mins up the road. You will be spoilt for choice. More leisurely activities include first class game fishing out of Cape Town harbour, walks around Table Mountain, visit to the SANCOB penguin sanctuary at the end of the road or a tour of the world famous Wine routes of Franschoek and Stellenbosch which are 10 -20 mins from your door.

Travel
Car hire in Cape Town in definitely recommended which is comparatively cheap (from £10/day incl). There are a few private taxi companies springing up if you would be prefer to be driven and a wide range of both private and public tours taking in the Wine route and Cape Town harbour area. Public transport is poor and not recommended.

Distances
Blouberg Beach 4km. Cape Town City 14km. Table Mountain 15km. Wine Route (start) 6km.

Further details
Bayside shopping centre is a 5 mins drive away and boasts one of the biggest shopping centres in Cape Town. There are a number of supermarkets there for you to stock up with your fillet steak (£12 for a whole fillet) or fresh fish from the Western Cape and an amazing array of fresh and exotic fruit and vegetables. There is also a wide variety of shops selling everything form local arts and crafts to high fashion and branded goods. A short drive to Blouberg Beach is where you will find the nearest nightlife. As well as innumerable restaurants catering for just about every taste there are number of trendy bars and clubs to party away at or to just sit outside in the warm evenings and watch the magnificent sunsets. If you venture further afield into the city centre you can experience fine dining at its best with award winning restaurants on every corner serving outstanding local produce and excellent Cape wines. Many of the local Wine estates have also ventured into the restaurant market and it is well worth spending an evening at one of these.
