Golf
Golf: Kimberley Golf Club ( located 40 minutes from our camp)
Many illustrious and historic figures have played at the club, including Cecil John Rhodes, Freddie Tait and Leander Starr, leader of the ill-fated Jameson Raid. This wonderful course has as interesting a story as does the town of Kimberley. Established in 1890 this popular course is an 18-hole par 72 (rating 71) layout designed by Robert Grimsdell. As a part of the development of the Flamingo Casino, a major drive was to upgrade the course. Facilities include a full driving range and a golf shop.
Golf: Magersfontein Memorial Golf Course (located 25 minutes from our camp)
This recently opened golf estate boasts 9 beautiful holes designed by John Edwards. The last 9 holes will be ready in 2007. Magersfontein Memorial has got an excellent restaurant overlooking the golf course.
Special interest holidays
Diamonds: The Kimberley Big Hole and Open Mine Museum Village (located 45 minutes from our camp)
The Museum has been undergoing a major facelift. A visit to the “Big Hole” (the largest man-made excavation in the world) will encompass two distinct experiences. Diamond Rush will reflect the history of Kimberley through the museological depiction of times past, including living conditions, entertainment experiences as well as trade and industry. The new Diamond World experience showcases the unique attractions of diamonds. Visitors will be taken through all aspects of the magic of diamonds, from creation, how diamonds are recovered, treated, cut and polished, through to sales and marketing. A diamond and jewellery store, coffee and curio shop is included in the experience.
