Family-friendly Holiday Cottage On The Moray Coast
No Passing Traffic, 3 Minute Walk From The Beach
Sleeps 6 (3 Bedrooms)

This is an historic fisherman's cottage situated in the sea town of Cullen, a conservation area of traditional cottages surrounding the village harbour. To tell the absolute truth, in the village's heyday as a fishing port, our cottage was actually two seperate dwellings that were combined together many years ago. What must of once been two rather modestly sized homes, now makes the perfect place for a holiday at the seaside. The history of the cottage makes its layout a little quirky as there are three levels. The ground floor has one double room, along with large dining kitchen (the kitchen and dining room were knocked together a few years ago) a bathroom (with bath and shower) and a sitting room. A standard twin room can be found on the top floor and one further twin room with children's beds is located on the mezzanine floor. As well as a children's room, families might be glad to find a cot, stair-gate, baby bath, highchair, toys, games, films, jigsaws and books.

Accessibility
The is an old house which has certainly not been designed for accessibility. The ground floor has one step and both back and front doors and one further step in the hall.
Outside
The cottage in the sea town of Cullen don't always have gardens. Our cottage has a small area at the rear for drying clothes or storing bikes. This area has a path running through it, so it is not totally private, but typically the path is very infrequently used and this area can be used for children to play or just sitting outside (chairs provided). The rear of the property is south facing and often a 'sun-trap' ideal for relaxing or reading.
Coast/Beach
There two beaches within a very short stroll from the cottage. The main Cullen beach is a beautiful stretch of sand between Cullen and Portknockie. The alternative, and often more popular, option is the smaller beach adjacent to the Cullen harbour. Despite its proximity to the harbour, this is small, safe and clean beach that is always popular with young children (whatever the weather)!
Golf
Cullen's 18 hole golf course is a five minute walk away. The local area offers some great golf, recommended courses include Buckpool (6 miles), Duff House (13 miles) and the championship course at Lossiemouth (23 miles).
Travel
Cullen is around one hour and 15 minutes drive from both Aberdeen and Inverness (both city's have airports). Unfortunately, there is no train service (nearest station is 13 miles away in Keith). There is a bus service from both Aberdeen and Inverness.
Distances
Cullen is 13 miles from Banff, 21 miles from Elgin. The village is one of a number of fishing villages along the Moray coast linked by a coastal path. From Cullen you can walk east to Sandend (3 miles) and Portsoy (6 miles) and west to Portknockie (1 mile), Findochty (3 miles) and Buckie (5 miles).
Further details
The village has hotels (with restaurants), coffee, shops, delicatessen, butcher, mini-supermarket, a bank, gift shops and a highly recommended ice cream shop selling their own home-made ice cream.
Booking notes
Bookings require a deposit of £50 and full payment required four weeks prior to arrival.
House swap
We would consider a house swap to any location that was good for families.
Owner profile
About the owner
The cottage is owned by Neil & Pauline Innes. We live in Aberdeen with our three children, who all love their trips to Cullen. Neil runs a tour company and Pauline works for the Scottish Government.
Year purchased: 2003
Why the owner chose a home in this location
We are both from the North East of Scotland and know the area well. When our first child was born in 2003, we felt it was more practical to holiday at home and the cottage gave us the opportunity to holiday near relatives without having to live with them. We looked at cottages along the coast, but Cullen was always our favoured option. As the children started school and all the kids activities, we found we had less opportunity to use the cottage and now rent it out to visitors.
Unique benefits of the property
The cottage is within easy walking distance of all local amenities. We love being able to walk to the beach and the shops and our children LOVE the rocks and rockpools which emerge when the tide goes out. This part of Scotland is drier than most, but in the event of rain (it can happen), the house has lots to occupy children. The children's bedroom runs into a 'playroom' with toys, games, books and a TV with some classic old kids films.
