Owner profile
About the owner
My husband and I lived overseas for many years and returned to Scotland in 2001. Coming to live in Pittenweem was a result of years of visits to the East Neuk and the viewing of many properties. We love it!
We have two grown up sons and two grandchildren - the elder of whom spends all summer with us, beachcombing, going for walks along to neighbouring villages (lured by the treat of an ice cream at the other end) or playing on the little beach at West Shore. We also have Fergus, the ginger cat, who terrorises us all!
Year purchased: 2008
Why the owner chose an apartment in this location
We first viewed Number 2 in October 2008. The main reason for buying it was its location plus the history of the building itself (details are on our website). The fact that we live very nearby was another factor. We can say hello when guests arrive and be on hand to give information or advice. We're not local to the area but feel as though we really belong to the community. There's always something to do, places to visit or another restaurant to try or just sit on the bench at the front door and say hello to people passing by. We never tire of watching the fishing boats come and go and the frequent lifeboat visits can be entertaining (only pratices!) Pittenweem is easily accessible from the Forth Rd or Tay bridges and is the perfect place for relaxing or enjoying the coastal paths.
Unique benefits of the property
Number 2 is in a wonderful location. Right on the harbour front, in a secluded spot, yet within walking distance to the village. The coastal path is on the doorstep, golf courses and the university town of St Andrews are only 20 minutes away by car. Lovely restaurants are nearby in neighbouring villages and National Trust properties await your visit. Kellie Castle and Cambo House gardens are beautiful (visit the snowdrops at Cambo throughout February). Whatever time of year you visit there is always something to do - say hello to the seals in the harbour, watch the waves crash over the harbour wall or walk along it on a sunny day, visit the artists on Open Studio days or come and stay during the week of the Art Festival (begins first Saturday in August with torch procession and fireworks).
