Notes on accommodation
The apartments were built around the site in 1988 perfectly blending an impressive early 20th Century building with contemporary architecture - and now set in immaculate landscaped grounds.
Holyrood Park Apartment was mainly built within the original structure ~ it sits right at the top of the South end of the building. In order to enter the hall of the building you walk over a little bridge across the converted (now a marvellous cycle path) old Innocent Railway line built in 1832 and connecting Dalkeith to Edinburgh.
There is free resident parking. The Penthouse Apartment sits right at the top of the building and is reached by a lift (or you can climb the stairs!) which ends its short journey exclusively at the front door of your apartment. Not suitable for children under 10 years of age

Outside
As you walk or drive down Holyrood Park Road you will see emerging the end of the building - just ahead of a red pillared Victorian Post Box you enter The Maltings estate, built around and preserving, the massive old Whisky Bond of J & G Stewart Limited which was owned by Andrew Usher (reputed with introducing the first whisky blending!). At the centre of the building overlooking the Park you can still see the regally pedimented centerpiece inscribed AU (for Andrew Usher) 1902
For more invigorating activities you have three wonderful choices we can organize mountain bikes (there is a charge for this) for you to slip into the Innocent Cycle Path right below the building and cycle away past through the Park heading for Duddingston - jog or brisk walking or gentle climbing through one of the many routes of Holyrood Park (including reaching the summit of Arthur’s Seat!) or simply cross the road enter the Royal Commonwealth Pool and Fitness Centre.
Coast/Beach
By car: Portobello 15 minutes, Gullane/North Berwick 35 minutes, Seacliff 45 (£2 entry fee but well worth it!), Fife Coast 1 hour, St Abbs 1.15 minutes.
Golf
Prestonfield Golf Club and Craigmillar Park Golf Club are just a few minutes away. Driving or by train you can be in North Berwick in just over half hour, the course is a true links course with magnificent views all the way, North Berwick Golf Clubit was founded in 1832 and is the 13th oldest in the world. Close to North Berwick you can play the Open Championship Course at Muirfield ~ harder however to get tee off times. Across the Forth Bridge you can be in Carnoustie and St Andrews in less than 1 hour ~ St Andrews in particular you will need to book months in advance.
Skiing
Head for Aviemore and Glen Shee ...but check the snow level first! Nearer at the hand less than 20 minutes away you can have great fun at Hillend dry slopes!

Guest comments
Thank you so much for letting us stay in your superb Holyrood Park Apartment when we were in Edinburgh for the Taste Festival. The apartment is fantastic beautifully furnished, extremely comfortable and equipped with just about everything. We were also very impressed with the way the fridge was stocked with essentials such as champagne! The view from the balcony out over Holyrood Park and Salisbury Crags is truly amazing and must be one of the best in the whole of Edinburgh. We would certainly recommend it to anyone wanting the perfect base for exploring the city, especially as it is within easy walking distance of the city centre and has the benefit of an Olympic size swimming pool juts round the corner. We are hoping to visit Edinburgh again soon, and trust that we'll have the good fortune to be able to book your apartment! (couple Dorset, England June 2007).
House swap
House swap considered. Apartment or villa sleep 4 (or possibly just 2) ~ mainly for the month of January or part of it - Florida or Canary Islands.
