Recently renovated but retaining its original character, the cottage is compact, well maintained and comfortably furnished. Located only 7 miles from the small crofting village of Durness, this unspoilt corner of Scotland offers a wide range of activities. This is golden eagle and red deer territory and there are more often than not opportunities to spot some of the areas rare and varied wildlife from outside the front door of the house. Currently undergone an extension which has enlarged the kitchen, another utility room and a downstairs room with sofabed. Easy access to wooden deck outside.

Changeover day
The changeover day is flexible. However we ask guests to be out of the property by 10am and for new guests the check in is anytime after 4pm.

Living Room 1: Log /coal burning fire (wood not provided, can buy locally, sofa bed, 2 big comfortable chairs, TV satellite, DVD, video, Large selection of books, games and films to watch. Nice old decorations, great views out of front of house. |

Cleaning/towels/

Towels and linen included. If staying more than 2 weeks we clean the apartment and change towels and linen halfway through the stay, or every 2 weeks. Thoroughly cleaned between lets but guests are requested to leave the cottage clean & tidy on departure. |
Notes on accommodation
The house is not centrally heated. It has a number of electric oil radiators and fan heaters, which easily provide enough heat. However there is also considerable warmth generated by the rayburn and log burning stove in the two downstairs rooms if guests want to light them. Dogs accepted on Ground floor only - maximum of 2 dogs. The House is non-smoking.

Accessibility
There is easy access into the back of house. Not suitable for wheelchair users.
Outside
The cottage has a small fenced garden at the front of the house, so if you have children you can keep an eye on them. Its rear garden is the hills of Sutherland and you can wander freely in any direction that takes your fancy.
Coast/Beach
The house is 7 miles from Balnakiel bay which boasts 2 miles of white sandy beach, with high sand dunes and Balnakiel house (built in 1774 as the bishop of Caithness' summer palace) as its backdrop. If one is brave enough, a swim or surf in the atlantic ocean can be very rewarding. There are also a number of beaches spead along the coastline.
Golf
Durness golf course (7 miles) is the most northwesterly course in mainland Britain. This 18 hole course is best known for its 9th/18th hole a 155 yard tee shot across an Atlantic inlet leaving little room for error. The course is a well recognised and has been featured on TV with Peter Allis and in all the golf magazines. It is a great way to spend an day/evening (£15 a day, £10 after 5pm)
Special interest holidays
Game and Fishing: The area is renowned for its fishing, with its three famous limestone lochs within 5 minutes drive and some the River Dhionard meandering past the houses door. There is plenty of oppurtunities for experts and beginners to catch a wonderful bag of fresh Salmon or Trout. Fishing permits can be arranged through the Durness Fishing club. This part of Scotland area has abundant deer.
Wildlife and Sights: There is an abundance of wildlife and sights of great beauty in this far northwest corner of Britain. One can take the ferry across the Kyle of Durness and then a minbus ride to visit Cape wrath lighthouse, and the see britains highest cliffs at Clo Mhor. Birdwatchers are in for a treat as it is not uncommon to catch sights of Golden Eagles soaring overhead and it is possible to watch Puffins on the cliffs below the lighthouse.Deer are often seen on the ground below the cottage in the evenings.

Durness: 7 miles Kinlochbervie: 5 miles. Large fishing port. You can watch the ships landing their catch.

Deposit and balance: More than 1 month ahead a deposit of 30% is payable on booking, with the balance due 1 month before arrival. Less than 1 month ahead full payment is due. There is a £100 security deposit - The electricity used will be deducted .If upon checking out, nothing is reported damaged, lost or broken, the security deposit will be returned to you minus the electrcity bill.
