Owner profile

About the owner
Brought up in Galashiels, I have always been very fond of Melrose. Fortunately my husband feels the same way, and we decided to buy a property in the town about 14 years ago. My husband and myself are now retired, and live in Buckinghamshire. We have 3 grown up children and 4 grandchildren, and enjoy travel and outdoor activities, as well as visits to Melrose.

Year purchased: 1980's

Why the owner chose an apartment in this location
Melrose is a picturesque border town renowned for its historic abbey, Eildon Hills, and the River Tweed. It is very accessible to Edinburgh as well as the coast, and numerous border golf courses. Many walks of varying length and difficulty are on offer in stunning settings. The town is acknowledged for its excellent restaurants, individual shops, and The Wynd theatre. Edinburgh airport is an hour and a quarter away, and there are train stations in Carlisle, Newcastle and Berwick upon Tweed. Many festivals take place throughout the year including the book festival in June, the Melrose festival in early summer, and the rugby sevens in April, as well as the pipe band competition. With such close proximity to Edinburgh it is also a good location to travel to the Edinburgh Festival.

Unique benefits of the property
The flat is in the centre of the High Street, and is convenient for the shops, restaurants and theatre, so the car can be abandoned. The property is small and full of character. Off street parking is available in the town.
