There are several outstanding beaches in the area:

Anstruther beach is good to explore at low tide.

Also close by is St Andrews Bay (Fairmont Hotel).

Travel
Anstruther is easily reached by road and is just over an hour's drive from Edinburgh. Several cheap airlines including Flybe, Easyjet and BMIbaby fly to Edinburgh from UK cities, as well as major airlines such as BA and BMI. There are several car hire companies in Edinburgh airport. You can also get there by bus, there is a regular service from Edinburgh. Car is recommended.

Further details
In Anstruther itself, visit the Scottish Fisheries Museum, or take a boat trip out to the isle of May. Enjoy the local beaches, take time out at one of the many excellent seafront cafes, stroll round the harbour or take a walk along the coastal path. There is a golf course 10 minutes walk away, a children's playground and tennis courts just next to the house.

It's worth a trip to some of the other East Neuk villages, particularly Pittenweem, which still has a fishing fleet and a fish market during the week. During August the village hosts an excellent Arts Festival. Also Crail and St Monans are worth a visit.

St Andrews is a beautiful university town with much history and excellent cafes, restaurants, bars and shops. For kids, the best beach is the West Sands which is right alongside the Old Course. The aquarium is very good and a great rainy-day option. There is also a good swimming pool at the East Sands Leisure Centre. St Andrews Botanic gardens are lovely on a nice day.

For watersports enthusiasts, or beginners, there is a good watersports centre in Elie. Other places of interest include Kellie Castle, Falkland Palace, Cambo House. St Andrews Castle and Cathedral, The Secret Bunker.

There are several shops in Anstruther including a large Co-op supermarket, butcher, baker, fishmonger, post office and 2 banks. There are several good cafes and restaurants, and a couple for good pubs. We provide full information on these nearer to your stay.
