Our spacious, very comfortably furnished villa is set in the heart of the seaside village of Praia da Luz, only 5 mins walk from the beach. We subscribe to the facilities of the Luz Ocean Club giving you access to a choice of 5 pools, 5 tennis courts (small local charge) restaurants, bars and shops. The local supermarket offers a free delivery service - so you don't even have to carry food, water, wine and beer! You can have a great holiday just in and around Luz - especially if you want to totally relax and chill. For the energetic there are plenty of activities at the beach including banana boat rides, pedaloes and water skiing in high season. Two water parks are 30 mins drive away. Lagos with marina is only 10 mins away by car/bus. Here you can enjoy sightseeing, plenty of inexpensive quality restaurants, shopping and nightlife. Further afield you can explore the beautiful Western Algarve-with its dramatic beaches. Whatever style of holiday-our villa is your answer!

Notes on prices
We welcome enquiries from couples and family groups. Prices are based on the following: November to March -2 persons sharing, July and August - 4 pers sharing. All other months 2-4 pers sharing. For other group numbers please contact us we will be very happy to quote. No restriction in holiday duration - stay 8/10/11 days etc. No extra charges for Ocean Club facilities - including, pools, 24hr reception, linen, towels, maid service, emergency maintenance etc.
Changeover day
Usually any changeover day is possible to allow our guests flexibility when booking flights. Where possible we try to be accommodating about check-in and check-out times.

Notes on accommodation
The house and fittings are very new being completed in 2002. The living/reception rooms are on the first floor to facilitate spectacular sea views. The bedrooms which are on the ground floor are cool in Summer. They are light and airy with patio doors yet secure having external aluminium locking shutters. All the living and bedroom areas are spacious, six people would be extremely comfortable. For our Winter guests there is a glass fronted log burning stove in the lounge to keep you cosy, as it can be cool in the evenings. We also have oil filled radiators for the bedrooms. The property is not suitable for wheelchair users.
Outside
Casa das Calcadas has well stocked front and rear gardens. There is a large BBQ with chimney to the side of the house. On the balcony from the lounge there is a patio table and 6 chairs. Holiday facilities are all within 5 minutes walk of the house. These include: the beach; Luz Ocean Club pools all offering free sun loungers, LOC bars offering lunches, snacks, drinks and sweets; LOC private gardens affording peace and relaxation. Tennis courts for the more energetic.
Coast/Beach
The house has stunning sea views. It's a 5 minute walk down to the beach -allow 10 minutes on return! The beautiful sandy beach at Luz offers safe bathing, rock pools, many water sports, excellent beach bars, restaurants and seaside shops. There are other excellent beaches along the coast. Walk to Burgau (1 hour) or drive there in 8 minutes. Salema 15 minutes by car. Meia Praia at Lagos 10 minutes by car or bus.
Golf
There is an excellent choice of nearby golf courses. Boa Vista Golf Course is less than 5 minutes by car and has an 18 hole championship golf course, a driving range and an excellent golf academy. Palmares Golf Course 10-15 minutes by car, 18 hole Par 71 golf course. Parque da Floresta 15 minutes by car, 18 hole, par 71 par course. Penina world famous Golf Resort -30 minutes by car 18 hole golf course plus two 9 hole golf courses. 20 Golf courses within one hour!
Travel
Faro airport is approx 1 hour's drive along virtually empty motorway! We are happy to advise on flights, car hire, taxi or shuttle bus.
Distances
There are countless fantastic beaches nearby, however Sagres, being the most south westerly tip of Europe is 30 minutes by car and Amado voted the best surfing beach in Portugal is 40 mins. Lagos a fantastic City is 10 mins away, and the spectacular border with Spain is less than an hour. If you love driving Seville is 3 hours away!

Luz has everything you need for a fantastic holiday - supermarkets, cafes, bars, restaurants, shops, doctors, pharmacy, bank, hairdressers and a beautiful church right by the beach. Nowhere in Luz is far away from our house! Finally, only 8 minutes by car in Burgau there is a small leisure centre offering various sporting activities for children.

About the owner
The Kirby family had been to Luz twice before buying 'Casa das Calcadas'. It was always a hit with our children, being the scene of many significant achievements in their lives such as building sand castles, learning to swim, mastering the art of a successful serve at tennis or simply cycling across the top of the cliffs to the next village, Burgau. They have always loved being there. Even when they became difficult teenagers, it held sufficient attraction for them to holiday with us willingly!

Why the owner chose a home in this location
Easter 2000 saw us in Praia da Luz on a tennis activity holiday. Somehow by the end of that short holiday we had signed for an off plan home that would be ready in 2002. It was unquestionably an impulse buy. We have never regretted it, and it has given us and our four children immense pleasure. Some of our children are now young independent adults but they always like to try and join us on holiday in Luz. It's just that sort of place. there's something for everyone there or in nearby Lagos.
Unique benefits of the property
Despite being right in the heart of the village and close to all necessary amenities including beach, supermarket, Bank, restaurants etc. our house is peaceful and relaxing. The first floor balcony which is ideal for alfresco dining or just reading your book and chilling, looks out over rooftops to the Ocean and the clifftops to the east side of the bay. We love the arrangement of the bedrooms downstairs (for coolness in summer) and the superb sea views from the upstairs living areas and balcony.All bedrooms look out onto private gardens at the front and rear of the property, stocked with bouganvilea, hibiscus, plumbago and our very own lemon and palm trees.
