Set in a quiet vale, with no through traffic, the property is independent of other houses. The landscape is typical of the Alentejo - sweeping open agricultural countryside dotted with cork trees. The area is amazingly beautiful and full of history providing an ideal environment for a peaceful, relaxing, holiday. This is the real Portugal that few tourists get to see. The house is long, low and white with blue edging, red doors and huge white chimneys - a traditional `monte´. In the intrerior, wherever possible, all traditional features have been retained or modern equivalents chosen to match. All the rooms (except the bathroom which is modern) have traditional portuguese architectual style with beam and cane ceilings, red floors and white walls and are decorated with furniture and objects from the region.

Further details
In addition to history and unspoilt countryside the area also has the three marble towns of Estremoz, Borba and Vila Viçosa. Fine wines can be sampled by following the wine route and visiting the famous vineyards of the central Alentejo. There are plenty of good and cheap restaurants, specializing in local dishes, where you can enjoy good food in a friendly local atmosphere. The area is rich in history - at least 16 walled towns and/or castles within half an hours driving distance, the best know of which is Evora with it's Roman temple and chapel of bones. Not far from Evora is Arraiolos, famous for it's tapestries and carpets. Walled villages set on high rock escarpments can be seen at Monsaraz to the South and Marvão to the North - where also can be found the breeding centre for Lusitania horses at Alter do Cháo and the city of Portalegre with the national park of the Serre de S.Mamede. There are numerous pre-historic monuments to be found in the region the best of them around Evora. Regional markets are held in most towns on Saturdays.
