Tavira Garden is regarded as the highest quality complex in the unspoilt Eastern Algarve. The spacious buildings are imaginatively designed in Moorish style, each different from its neighbour and set in extensive and immaculate mature gardens in this quiet complex. Facilities at Tavira Garden include 2 large pools both with adjoining children's pools and surrounded by sun loungers and shade if required, football/tennis court, gymnasium, children's playground, lounge area, office (open Monday-Friday, English spoken), restaurant/bar with inside and outside dining, BBQ area. There is ample parking space on the complex. It's a very short and pleasant walk to Tavira's historic old town areas, harbour and Roman bridge. Tavira Beach has recently been named as one of the top 10 beaches in the world by The Lonely Planet - it's 12km long, with EC Blue Flag status, clean, sandy and uncrowded even in summer. Many other similar unspoiled sandy beaches are within easy reach of Tavira Garden.

Notes on prices
Payment may be made in £/Sterling. These prices are for maximum 2 people + baby in cot; an additional 25 Euros per person per week is charged for 3rd & 4th person. There's an extra charge of 4 Euros per day for air conditioning; decide when you're here if you wish to use it. For bookings of more than 1 week the cost for odd days is calculated pro rata the weekly charge. The price for long winter lets, 165 Euros p/week, excludes the cost of electricity used, which is payable when you're here.

Changeover day
Arrival and departure dates are fully flexible. Access on arrival generally by 16:00hrs and check-out on departure generally by 11:00hrs, but these times are more flexible whenever our other clients' bookings permit. Luggage storage is available.

Comfortable bright 1 bedroom apartment in a quiet position. Recently totally refurbished. Sleeps up to 4. Bedroom: 2 single beds, large fitted mirrored wardrobes, hair dryer, air-con, ceiling fan, heater. Lounge/dining: TV with lots of UK channels (no Portuguese/Spanish TV), DVD player, radio/CD player, sofa converting to a comfortable double bed if required, comfortable easy chairs, dining table seating 4, air-con, heater. New kitchen & bathroom recently installed. Kitchen: fully equipped, fridge/freezer, washing machine, dishwasher, full-size oven, ceramic hob with extractor fan over, microwave, iron/ironing board, kettle etc. Bathroom: bath/shower, basin with vanity unit, bidet, WC, heater. Very large private roof terrace accessed from inside apartment with panoramic views over the roofs & countryside to the sea; sun loungers, parasols, tables & chairs, shower. Also separate small balcony at front of apartment with table & chairs. All bed linen & bathroom towels provided.

 

Notes on accommodation
This apartment is legally licensed for letting by Tavira Council and the Health and Safety Authority. There is no gas in this building. There are fire extinguishers, fire blanket and smoke alarms. There is a security safe for guests' use free-of-charge, a comprehensive information folder, selection of books and CDs, insect screens on every window. The apartment has heaters + the air-con heats as well as cools, and double glazed windows - so is perfect for winter holidays as well as summer. The apartment is cleaned to a high standard before arrival and after departure. We do not accept pets in this property. Please smoke only in outside areas and not inside the apartment. Baby's sturdy travel cot with insect net available for hire, price 3 Euros per night. Beach/pool towels may be rented from us, price 3 Euros per towel per stay. There's a small charge for use of the gym and tennis court on the complex; also for the tumble dryer in Tavira Garden's laundry which may be used by guests.

Accessibility
This apartment is located on the first floor and therefore is not suitable for people who have difficulty climbing stairs.

Late arrivals: please note that there is a surcharge of 20 Euros for arrival at the apartment after 22:00hrs (unless your late arrival is the unexpected result of a flight delay).

Outside
Very large private roof terrace accessed from inside apartment (sunshine all day!) which covers the whole property, with wonderful panoramic views over the roofs and countryside to the Ria Formosa nature reserve and the sea. On the roof terrace there are tables and chairs, comfortable sun loungers, sun umbrellas, shower. There is also a small balcony at the front of the apartment with table and chairs. The extensive mature gardens, the swimming pools, plus all other facilities on the Tavira Garden complex, may be used by everybody staying there.

Coast/Beach
Relax on one of the massive clean uncrowded sandy beaches stretching along this coast - warmest sea in Portugal! Reach huge sandy Tavira beach by a delightful short boat trip across the lagoon from the town. There are many other wonderful sandy beaches along this unspoiled stretch of coast, all within easy reach and uncrowded even in summer. The Spanish border is approx 30km to the east, where the ancient border castles, quiet old villages and broad River Guadiana are a must to explore.

Golf
Several top quality golf courses are within very easy reach; the nearest, Benamor (5,500m, par 71) was designed by Sir Henry Cotton and is only 4km from Tavira Garden. Other nearby courses include Quinta de Cima - 6,256 metres, par 72 (7km from Tavira Garden); Quinta da Ria - 6,110ms, par 72 (7km from Tavira Garden); Castro Marim - 5,466 metres, par 72 (28km from Tavira Garden). Two new prestigious golf complexes are also very near - Jack Nicklaus's Monte Rei is approx 15 minutes drive, and Sevi Ballesteros's Quinta do Vale is approx 20 minutes drive. Lots of other courses in western Spain and the western Algarve are within one hour's drive. Golf club hire is available, for you to collect at Faro Airport when you arrive.

Special interest holidays
Private boat trips can be organised, completely tailor made to suit your requirements and very good value for money. For example - bird watching in the Ria Formosa Nature Reserve; fishing; exploring the coast, Tavira Island, the River Gilão running through Tavira town, etc. Why not take a little boat trip to one of the nearby deserted beaches, or to delightful Santa Luzia village for a leisurely cheap fish lunch in one of the little restaurants overlooking the sea there? If you are a cyclist or hiker, there is now a cycling/walking route going from the Spanish border in the east to the western tip of the Algarve, giving wonderful views and plenty of clean fresh air!

There is a kite-surf school in nearby Cabanas, approx 4km from Tavira Garden.

Travel
Faro Airport is approx 35km away. We can organise your airport transfers by taxi at discounted rates; we can also arrange car hire for you with a reliable local company, to collect at Faro Airport on your arrival - although a car is not necessary for the enjoyment of your holiday at Tavira Garden. Bicycle hire is available in town. Trains from Tavira Station will take you to other parts of Portugal, and buses cover a wide area including to Seville and other parts of Spain.

Distances
You may wish to explore the nearby unspoiled little fishing villages such as Santa Luzia, Cabanas, Cacela Velha or Fuzeta, with their huge sandy uncrowded beaches and quaint cobbled streets. The massive Ria Formosa Nature Reserve abounds with birdlife - flamingos are regular visitors - and the hills and pretty old villages of the Serra do Caldeirão are just a few kilometres north, with breathtaking views and peaceful lanes ideal for walking or cycling.

Further details
The Tavira Garden complex is situated in the northern part of unspoiled Tavira, still a working fishing port and considered the most elegant and beautiful town on the Algarve. Known as the Venice of the Algarve, Tavira has a history going back to Roman and Moorish times. With its narrow cobbled streets, ancient hilltop castle, old churches, traditional tiled houses, little shops and Roman bridge spanning the broad River Gilão which runs through the town, exploring is sheer delight. Tourism has had very little impact here and the area is untouched by any 'yob culture'. There are lots of little pavement cafes & restaurants, many along the banks of the palm-lined river, offering cheap delicious food. You'll find plenty of small shops as you wander round the town, or for more serious shopping visit the new Gran Plaza shopping mall. There's a daily market selling local produce, fruit, vegetables, meat and fish - all fresh and very cheap. Nearest supermarket, approx 100 metres (open 7 days a week). Nearest bakers, chemist, post office, newsagent, cafés, other small shops, cash point, approx 200 metres. Internet facilities are available at several places in town, and Tavira Garden's reception and lounge area is a Wi-Fi zone. It's a very short and attractive walk from Tavira Garden through parts of the picturesque old town to the castle, Roman bridge, fishing port and harbour areas. We'll consider any reasonable offer for late bookings when the apartment is available! We've been providing holiday accommodation for more than 6 years with much praise from our clients, and are confident we know what is required for a successful & happy holiday. Booking notes
30% deposit required at time of booking, balance payable 8 weeks before arrival. For bookings made less than 8 weeks before arrival, 100% is payable at time of booking.

In case of cancellation, the 30% deposit is non-refundable and we will reimburse as much of the 70% balance as we have been able to recoup with a replacement booking.

If payments are not made promptly, bookings may be liable to cancellation.

About the owner
We are a friendly and young-at-heart couple who took very early retirement from our UK jobs in 2004 and moved to the Algarve. A few years before that we had visited Tavira for a short holiday and it was love at first sight! It's so unspoiled, quaint and historic, with the wonderful protected Ria Formosa nature reserve, the fishing port and harbour and all the huge sandy beaches. So different from the commercialised and highly developed resorts of the western Algarve. We bought a property to use for family holidays, but after a while we decided we'd had enough of the English winter weather - that was when we left the UK and moved permanently to Tavira.

Why the owner chose an apartment in this location
Before buying our property we researched and explored the whole area, and decided that the Tavira Garden complex is by far the most impressive part of the eastern Algarve for a holiday apartment - it is so well kept, spacious, clean and attractive, and offers so many facilities to holiday makers. The pools are wonderful, and the gardens gorgeous! About 50% of the complex is occupied by permanent residents - so, unlike so many holiday complexes, there are always people around there even in the low season. We pride ourselves on offering a speedy and efficient service to our clients, from your first enquiry through to the end of your holiday, and our efficiency has always been much appreciated and praised by our clients, who say it's so easy to book a holiday with us.

Unique benefits of the property
This property is 'home from home'. It's spacious, bright and modern, furnished and equipped to the highest standard. It's one of the few apartments on Tavira Garden complex with its own large private roof terrace. We think that one of the advantages of booking our apartment is that we live just a few minutes away, so if our clients have any queries or problems during their stay we can always help or advise them quickly. Also we are by now very knowledgeable about Tavira and the surrounding areas.
