Villa dos Arcos is a delightful house with great character, facing south at the edge of a truly unspoilt Portuguese village. It is traditionally furnished and has attractive mature gardens with a private swimming-pool. There is the option of an additional cottage (Casita) in the grounds, converted from two old barns, enabling two families (or generations) to holiday together, but with a degree of privacy. Enjoy the unique combination of authentic village life, together with the convenience of a comfortable villa and pool, normally found only in the development areas. Indeed it is that rare discovery - the best of both worlds. The village has two small general stores, bread is delivered daily, there are three restarants serving simple local dishes. There is no night life - rather it is a place for peace and tranquility.

Outside
traditional barbecues, Gazebo, arbour, doors leading to pool (also with terraces and garden) which can be secured to protect children. Ample garden furniture, offering various possibilites for eating outside.
Coast/Beach
The area is a conservation area with an abundance of wild flowers and gently rolling hills. A series of unspoilt beaches lie within easy walking distance (eg Figueira beach, a sheltered cove with a ruined Roman castle on the cliff top - 20 minutes walk), Salema, a quaint fishing village with a fish market and beach (30 minutes walk/ 5 minutes drive). One can walk all along the coast, from cove to cove. Excellent fishing, riding, superb bird-watching. Tennis, squash, bowling.
Golf
Parque de Floresta. Very scenic , spectacular 18 hole championship course, with many water holes and interesting challenges. Can be seen from the Villa. 1/2 mile away. Concessionary rates available. Palmares, Boa Vista and are Penina courses within easy reach.
Special interest holidays
The property is ideally suited for bird watching and many visitors have written very enthusiastically about their experiences and sightings (a log is maintained in the house to which bird watchers add their observations and recommendations). It is on the migratory route and , being at the top of the village, with wide views in all directions, a vast range of birds can be seen, including many rare species. Guided tours are available.
Travel
Under one hour's drive from Faro airport 80 km ( easy route). A car is strongly recommended, although the journey can be made my train and bus.
Distances
Salema, Budens 2 km. Cape St Vincent 8 km, Lagos, a fine historic town , with churches, museums, concerts, city walls, slave market, marina, 10 km. Sagres (traditional boat building yard) 8 km. Monchique, mountain town with spa, 30 km.
Further details
Village shops are basic but full of character and local gossip. There is a new supermarket in Budens only 2km away. Fresh bread, fruit and fish delivered to the village. Small local markets in Salema and Sagres. Large market, bull ring, cinema, night clubs etc in Lagos. Figueira has a chronicled history of 300 years, and the spectacular ruins of the fortress where the villagers fought off Moorish pirates can be explored.

We have just returned from a magnificent holiday in your property. Very occasionally one manages to find a a location with unique charm. Your villa can only be described as spectacular. the sort of place which one sees on the cover of holiday brochures but never finds in practice. This was our fourth visit to Villa dos Arcos, and every time we come we love it more. This year John’s highlights were several sightimngs of booted eagles seen from the delightful path to the beach.
