The complex is on the edge of town with views from the four balconies, to the countryside and hills beyond, and yet the beach and town are just a short stroll away. For those lazy days there is a swimming pool and a tennis court to enjoy. Sao Martinho has not been over-developed and is surrounded by interesting, historical places to visit and other beautiful beaches along the coast to the north and south. The stunning shell shaped bay can be enjoyed at one of the many small bars and restaurants along the seafront. The sandy beach and calm protected waters are ideal for children and yet beyond the bay the surf awaits the more adventurous. There are many different activities available including water-sports, horse riding and mountain biking. For the golfers, there are various courses in the surrounding area.

Changeover day
Changeover day is flexible. Arrival time is 16:00, departure time 11:00 but may be negotiable.

| Other: | The hallway is fitted with a bookcase where you'll find an information folder containing information about the apartment, Sao Martinho and the local region. It is also fitted with an entryphone connected to the main entrance to the apartment block. |

Notes on accommodation
There is a heating/air-con unit in each of the 3 bedrooms and also in the kitchen and living room. The living room also has a wood burning stove. The apartment is reached by lift or stairs from a spacious main entrance. The main door leads into a large hall area with storage cupboards. Underground parking is included with direct lift access to the first floor.
Accessibility
There is full wheelchair access. There is a lift to all floors including underground car park. There is an electronic sliding gate to this secure complex operated by remote control handset which is also used to open and enter the underground garage. There is also a pedestrian gate with keypad entry.
Outside
The main balcony (accessed from both the lounge and kitchen) has a mahogany table and four chairs. The second balcony (accessed from the lounge), has 2 mahogany sunbeds to enable you to enjoy that sun downer moment! The shared swimming pool (with provided sun-loungers) and tennis court are situated in the complex gardens, adjacent to the central courtyard and apartment block. There are changing rooms with showers and toilets in the basement area which can be reached directly from the pool or car park. The sun loungers for the pool are stored in the basement next to the changing rooms.
Coast/Beach
Sao Martinho's cockle-shell bay and white sandy beach is a few minutes walk from the apartment. The waters are perfectly calm and ideal for young families. 10 minutes drive north are the beaches of Nazare - ideal for surfers. Similarly, 10 minutes drive south brings you to Foz with similar white sandy beaches, ideal for just relaxing or for the energetic, taking on the waves.
Golf
Praia d'el Rey 18 holes, 30 minutes drive. Golden Eagle, Rio Maior 18 holes, 30 minutes. Vimeiro 9 holes. Botado 9 holes.
Travel
The apartment is situated 100kms north of Lisbon Airport - approximately 1 hours drive by motorway. Porto Airport is approximately 200kms further north - approximately 2 hrs drive by motorway. Whilst the apartment can be reached from either airport by coach or train, a hire car is recommended, not least to enable you visit the wonderful historic towns of the region.
Distances
South - medieval walled town of Obidos. Peniche - superb harbour front restaurants. Barlengas Islands - Nature reserve perfect for bird watchers. Santarem - gothic city, and the palace, church and monastery at Mafra. Sintra - UNESCO world heritage site. North - Alcobaca, another UNESCO site. Boasts Portugal's largest church. Fatima - a pilgrimage destination on a par with Lourdes. Leira, Porto do Mos and Tomar - fabulous castles. Caldas Da Rainha - sprawling spa town. All within 1 hours drive.
Further details
There is a daily morning market (except Mondays) in Sao Martinho that provides fresh fruit, vegetables and bread plus a wide selection of local produce. There are several small family-run supermarkets in the town itself as well as the recently opened Intermarche.
Portugal is the cheapest Western European country so holidaymakers opt to eat out most nights. Recommended restaurants are A Casa - excellent service and fresh fish you can choose. Carvalho - on Main St in the Old Town Centre, level with the back of Hotel Atlantica - very good value. O Farol - located on the beach with the best views value. Portobellos - excellent pizza/pasta with fabulous views of the bay. Martinhos - if you are missing real home-cooked food, then this is the place to visit. Meu Jardin - Inexpensive but serves wonderful fish and steak dishes - 10 minutes drive toward Nazare. Also try Hotel Capitao for afternoon tea on the veranda. A real treat.
Various boat and fishing trips can be arranged from the harbour and a new boardwalk through the sand dunes to Salir do Porto has just been constructed. Many activities including various water sports, horse and mountain bike riding can all be organised in the town.

Emma - Aug 10 - We had a fabulous time in Sao Martinho! The apartment is wonderful and provided us with everything we needed and location wise it was perfect - everything was an easy distance The pool area is lovely and was never busy. All in all - it was perfect - other than we wish we had gone for longer!

We found the information folder extremely useful, visited the interesting towns nearby and tried many of the restaurants recommended. We will definitely recommend the apartment to our friends.
