Forget the Algarve - this is the real Portugal! São Martinho is the perfect place for a family bucket-and-spade holiday as well as a relaxing getaway for the adults! It enjoys an elegant cosmopolitan ambience with plenty of shops, restaurants, cafes and bars. Our luxury apartment is within a few minutes walk of the beach & amenities of this utterly charming seaside resort within a fabulous cockle-shell-shaped bay. The Condo 'Costa de Prata' is a new development of the highest quality and it includes a communal pool as well as communal roof terraces with BBQs. Our apartment is on the 2nd (top) floor. Both living room and master bedroom open onto the sunny west-facing balcony with BBQ. We have WiFi and 130 channel English Sat HD TV. Please note that unlike many other apartments, electricity, cleaning and laundry are all included in the price!

This development of 54 apartments in 3 blocks benefits from a south/west-facing communal pool. Each block also comes with a roof terrace with built-in BBQs. Access to this wonderful amenity is so conveniently close to our apartment that we have provided outdoor dining table and 6 recliner chairs and 4 sunbeds with tables up there for the exclusive use of our guests.
The apartment's own balcony comes furnished with a built-in BBQ - enhancing the whole experience of watching the sun set! Underground parking is also provided.
Coast/Beach
The beach of this fabulous cockle-shell-shaped bay is just a 5-minute walk away. The silky-soft sand of the long beach is lapped by the tranquil waters of the almost land-locked bay making this a paradise for young children, whilst older children can safely enjoy the various water sports available. Wooden walkways over the preserved sand dunes lead to walking and cycling paths which extend to many picturesque sightseeing points.
Golf
The renowned golf courses of Praia del Ray, Rio Maior, Vimeiro and Peniche are all within 30 minutes drive.
Travel
There are flights from London Luton, Gatwick, Liverpool and Bristol with 'Easyjet'.
Sao Martinho do Porto is about half-way up the western coast of Portugal. It lies 80km north of Lisbon and its international airport and is easily reached from there via the A8 motorway - a very pleasant 45 mins drive. 'Economycarrentals' price inc. insurance.
You can also go by shuttle-bus from the airport then coach from the bus station (1 hr 15 mins) for about €10 pp. Also private taxi €90 each way.

There is just SO much to see and do:
Tomar is a charming town dating back to 1157 dominated by a castle, with a neat grid of narrow streets, a main square and a lively 15th Century bridge. An island in the river provides pleasant paths through a cool and shady park. Of great historical significance is the monastery and Templar castle which was founded by the Knights Templar in 1162 still retains wonderful reminders of these Monk-Knights.
Obidos is an enchanting medieval fairytale town set up on a hill with its castle, pretty whitewashed houses, narrow winding streets and tiny tavernas, enclosed by 14th Century crenellated walls.
Batalha Abbey, founded between 1388 and 1514, is a UNESCO World Heritage site – a masterpiece of Gothic architecture with unfinished chapels.
Alcobaça Abbey, founded between 1153 and 1223, is another UNESCO World Heritage site and is Portugal’s largest church. Alcobaça itself is an attractive town with a very pretty town hall surrounded by gardens and pools.
Leiria is a Moorish town with a lively market and great authentic tavernas and restaurants. Its resplendent hilltop castle was a royal residence in 14th Century. The castle’s loggia affords stunning views overlooking the wide expanse of medieval pine forest, the Pinhal de Leiria. An 18th Century stairway up the hill opposite the castle climbs up to an elaborate and colourful 16th Century Baroque sanctuary. The old town beneath the castle is full of charm with tiny dwellings over archways and graceful arcades.
Porto de Mos is a small town with a fanciful castle perched on the hill above. It boasts a museum and pretty public gardens. To its south lies the Parque Natural das Serras de Aire e Candeeiros which is an area dotted with vast and spectacular underground caverns full of stalactites and stalagmites. Grutas de Mira de Aire is the largest of these – 110m into tunnels with walkways around subterranean lakes - an organised tour with a theatrical light and water show.

BS: The apartment is perfectly formed, with comfortable seating, well equipped kitchen and lovely big balcony with bbq built in. We enjoyed cooking and eating on the balcony in the evening sunshine. The main seafront at Sao Martinho can be busy with cars so it was a great advantage to have accommodation a little further away but still within easy walking distance of the uncrowded beach and town.
JK: This apartment was one of the most comfortable we have stayed in. Lovely pool and roof top terrace. The delightful beach is literally only 5 minutes away, and there is lots to visit in the surrounding area.
SG: Thanks for our wonderful stay at your luxury apartment - we immediately fell in love with the place, it contains all the facilities and equipment to make a vacation complete. The children enjoyed the pool and the big plasma television! Again, thanks for letting us rent your place. The name "Top Quality Apartments" is well chosen as your apartment really is top quality!

I live in Cambridge with my husband Richard. Our three grown-up sons have all left home. I took early retirement from my job in education in 2006 and am enjoying being at home again. We have 5 apartments altogether in Cyprus, Portugal and another in Morocco (to be furnished May 2011) - and have personally furnished them all for our own use as well as our guests - check them out on our top quality apartments website.

Why the owner chose an apartment in this location
Why did we choose to buy here? We absolutely fell in love with Sao Martinho as soon as we saw it - an amazing enclosed cockle-shell shaped bay with a popular and picturesque family resort, obviously loved by the Portuguese! Further afield, the Silver Coast area of Portugal has it all - miles and miles of pure sandy beaches, acres of pine forests, many cosmopolitan resorts, plenty of historical places of interest, breathtakingly beautiful sights - and perhaps best of all - everyone is so friendly and helpful. Most people can't wait to try out their (very good) English on you. We also really like the fact that our apartment is within easy walking distance of all Sao Martinho's amenities.
