Casa Nogueira is situated 6km from the main town of Pedrogao Grande. The cottage, with it's walled courtyard garden and pool, forms part of the 5 acre family smallholding, which consists of 3 acres of mixed woodland and 2 acres of vegetable garden, grapevines, olive grove and various fruit trees.

Changeover day
Changeover day is normally Saturday, but we are flexible on this. We ask guests to arrive after 4pm and vacate the cottage by 10am.

| Living Rooms: | Comfortable lounge with large sofa that converts to a single bed, 2 chairs, coffee table, book shelves, Satellite TV, DVD player, portable radio and wood burner. There is a small selection of books and board games. |

Towels and linen are provided and changed weekly. Pool cleaning and maintenance as arranged with guests. |

Notes on accommodation
In winter a complimentary basket of firewood is provided and subsequent firewood is charged at local rates. In the warmer months, the owners will require access to water the garden. Whilst the cottage and courtyard garden are private, the family live in the old farmhouse and will be on hand should guests require any assistance, but we will respect guests privacy at all times.
There is no smoking inside the cottage.

Outside
The patio and barbeque area overlooks the courtyard garden and countryside beyond. The covered outside dining area has a table and 6 chairs and a built in barbeque. There are 2 sun loungers to the side of the 8 x 4 x 2m deep private pool. Guests are also welcome to stroll through the woodland, olive grove and vegetable garden, where your senses will be guided through the colours of wildflowers and bulbs, the smells of the orange blossoms, the sight of swallows that like to drink from the pool whilst you swim, eagles and gosshawks soaring overhead. Or be part of the coming together of the communities and families at grape and olive picking time.
Coast/Beach
Figueira da Foz is approximately 1 hours drive where you can find lovely clean and uncrowded beaches, lots of entertainment for the family, and an excellent ice-cream parlour!
Travel
Casa Nogueira is situated between both Lisbon and Porto airports - approximately 1hr 40 minutes from either. Rail links to Pombal and bus/coach links to Pedrogao Grande. The use of a car is recommended. Driving in the area is on uncongested roads and in the village of Picha the flow of traffic is mainly confined to tractors and rotovators with trailers!
Distances
Pedrogao Grande is the nearest town and is only 6km away. Here you will also find the main road link (IC8), for travel throughout Portugal. The 'Barragem do Cabril' (The dam) is only 10km away and has stunning views, a lakeside restaurant and watersports. Further afield, you can visit Conimbriga, the university city of Coimbra and Tomar - home of the knights templar all within 1 hours drive.
Further details
Although a relatively new smallholding, we are able to offer our guests fresh home grown fruit and vegetables, eggs straight from the hens and our own olive oil. Fresh bread is delivered to the door, 6 days a week. Within a few minutes walk there is the local cafe/restaurant -'Cafe Picha', which is very popular with the Portuguese and serves good food and wine at a reasonable cost, here you will also be assured of a friendly and helpful welcome. For every-day amenities there is Pedrogao Grande, where you will find a weekly farmers market, shops, a bakery, post-office, banks, grocers, restaurants and nightclubs. In the centre there is a beautifully planted park and Roman ruins. One of the local markets we use at Pedrogao Pequeno, which has a lovely friendly atmosphere, is only a few minutes away from the Roman bridge and stunning views over the dam.
'Pria Fluvials' - (river beaches) are within short driving distances from the cottage and have cafes and picnic areas. Castenheira de Pera is well known for it's wave machine and water park and is very popular with both locals and tourists. For those who like to shop: Pombal, Coimbra and Castelo Branco have large shopping areas. Places of special interest in the region are the 'Aldeias do Xisto' - restored, traditional villages like Casal de Sao Simao.
Activities in the area include archery, watersports, fishing, swimming and All Terrain Vehicle Tours. We also have mountain bicycles available should you wish to explore the forest tracks, where we would recommend you have a camera available for the abundant wildlife.

About the owner
We had a keen interest in gardening and vegetable growing previously and wanted to build on our experiences of providing more for ourselves. It's been a challenging and fascinating time to present, and our animal husbandry skills are improving by the day! We are slowly learning the language, which has raised a few smiles along the way, but the Portuguese have an infinite patience which comes in handy on most occasions!

We decided 'this is it' when we first came to view, it has everything we were looking for: close to amenities if we wanted, lots of space, easy for visitors to find, yet far enough removed from the stresses and strains of modern day living.
