Notes on accommodation
The property can sleep 9 adults plus there is a cot, highchair, stairgate provided. Both balconies can be child locked. 2 smoke alarms and 1 carbon monoxide alarms are fitted. Electric fans and heaters are provided.
Accessibility
Property has been specially constructed for wheelchair users providing an almost separate sleeping quarters with fully accessible shower room and access from the bedroom outside to the terrace and pool.
Outside
The property has manicured gardens which are fenced and gated to ensure child safety. The pool is 6 x 3m and 1.4m in depth and has integrated steps within the pool and a handrail with ladder at one end. There is a spacious garden area for children to play (swingball etc) which also includes a rotating dryer for clothes. The property is surrounded by a patio which also runs down the side of the house leading to the barbecue. 4 seater table and chairs / 5 sun loungers with cushions are provided.
Coast/Beach
Sao Martinho beach is 2km away and is a beautiful bay which is safe for swimming and also has a childrens play area in the Summer. There is a lovely boardwalk walk from here along to Salir do Porto with its new outdoor lido pool. Foz d'Arelho is a wonderful beach lagoon with bars and seafood restaurants with stunning sea views. Nazare beach 10 mins away very traditional with a funicular which goes up the side of the cliff with stunning views. Also has a water park.
Golf
We are 35 mins from Praia d'el Rey which won Portugal's leading resort at the World Travel Awards in 2007/2008 and has an 18 hole golf course voted the 13th top course in Europe. 40 mins away are Rio Maior Golden Eagle Golf course and Westin Campo Real Golf Resort and Spa. Near the lagoon at Obidos 25 mins away is the Bom Sucesso Golf Course which opened in 2008.
Special interest holidays
The Silver Coast is rich in archaeology from prehistoric caves to Moorish Castles and Roman Villages, aqueducts and bridges, medieval churches and monasteries. There is good fishing, surfing and deep sea fishing near Berlenga islands, water skiing, windsurfing and rowing on Obidos Lagoon and good country walking. Obidos holds a music festival in August, a medieval fair in July and a chocolate festival in February. Peniche, Portugal's largest fishing port was used as a location for the Rip Curl Pro Search Event for Surfers in 2009.

Lisbon airport 1 hr drive. Served by BA, Easyjet, BmiBaby, Monarch, Tap and most airlines from the UK. Aerlingus daily from Dublin, seasonal from Cork. Porto airport 2hr drive. Served by Ryanair from Stanstead and Dublin. Car hire recommended but regular bus service from Lisbon to Sao Martinho (every 2 hrs or so).

New supermarket just opened in Sao Martinho Sept 09 is Intermarche. Sao Martinho has banks, shops and a daily market and is renowned for its fantastic seafood restaurants, beachside cafes and family friendly atmosphere. Alcobaca, Mafra, Sintra, Leira, Fatima are all within easy reach and are a must see for Portuguese culture and history. Nearby Caldas de Rainha and Nazare have a cinema with most films in English with Portuguese subtitles. Caldas de Rainha is a beautiful spa town with a daily market and unique tree lined park with childrens play area, boating lake, tennis courts, museum and cafe. The walled town of Obidos is a must and an unforgettable day out with its numerous festivals and open air theatre. Bombarrel is 30 mins away and has a great go-karting track.

Why the owner chose a home in this location
Myself and my husband bought this property 3 years ago for ourselves and our young family as a home from home with everything within easy reach. Often when you go away on holiday you have to make compromises with a family but not here. We have a beautiful villa with its own pool with child friendly enclosed gardens and Sao Martinho is just 2 mins drive away. The beach has play areas in the Summer and is suitable for bathing. There are ice cream parlours, pedalos and a little train which takes you round the town. Not to mention a horse and cart. It is a great family location for young children. We have a quiet local bar and restaurant within walking distance which is family friendly. A wonderful place to relax for adults and a typical Portuguese Holiday Resort that still remains unspoilt.

The property is also only an hours drive from Lisbon so you can experience a day out in the city with its various shopping malls, sea world for the children and numerous places and buildings of historical interest.Day trips from the house are also possible to the beautiful walled city of Obidos. Grutas de mira de aire are worth a visit - the largest caves in Europe. Fatima and the beautiful National Park where you can find Sintra are about an hour away. Whether you want to stay and relax at the villa and put the kids to bed early and open a bottle of wine or go out and about exploring and come home..we have had and still continue to have great family holidays here. We love it...
