Coast/Beach
Praia D’el Rey has a beautiful stretch of long sandy beach (3 minute drive or a leisurely walk) which is excellent for surfing and walking. The beautiful Obidos lagoon (10 minute drive) stretches in from the Atlantic and is ideal for families and water sports. The sandy surfing beaches of Baleal and Peniche (10-15 minute drive) are both well known and offer lessons in surfing, kite or windsurfing and jet skiing. You can catch a boat (seasonal) from Peniche to the Berlenga islands and scuba dive.
Golf
The apartment is situated on the fabulous Praia D’el Rey resort and 18-hole golf course, arguably the most stunning in Europe. The golf course is located between the stunning Atlantic coast and the extensive pinewoods. Completed in 1998, the par 72, 6467 yard course has already become established as one of the very best in Europe. The course also offers a high quality golf academy, including driving range and short game practice area, and is always in great condition with lush fairways and well manicured greens. The clubhouse, first tee and driving range are all within a 10 minute walk. Golf clubs and buggies can be hired.
Special interest holidays
Praia del Rey's children's club 'Clube Aventura' (up to 16 years old) offers outdoor activities including surfing, body-boarding, quad biking, paintball, archery, kayaking and beach/sports games. Family excursions and activities are also available. Bookable through 'Clube Aventura' next to the club house. Seven tennis courts, coaching available, five minutes walk from villa. Caldas da Rainha (15-20 minutes drive) boasts a daily food market, ceramics museum, restaurants and comprehensive shopping facilities. Lisbon, the vibrant capital city of Portugal, is one hours drive.
Travel
The nearest airport is Lisbon which is under an hours drive to Praia D’el Rey. Car hire is advisable. Lisbon is well served by both scheduled airlines and low cost airlines: Easyjet fly daily from London Luton and Gatwick. Air Portugal (TAP) fly from Birmingham, Belfast, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Leeds, London Gatwick/Heathrow and Manchester. BA offers flights daily from London Heathrow. Aer Lingus fly from Dublin. Porto is an alternative airport and is about two hours and 30 minutes drive.
Distances
Obidos (World Heritage site 15-20 minutes drive) is a medieval walled town with cobbled streets, castle and plenty of craft/gift shops, restaurants and bars. Chocolate Festival in February, Medieval Fair in July and a Christmas Fair in December. Peniche and Baleal (10-15 minutes drive) are popular family beaches and surfing spots with seafood restaurants. The aqua park (seasonal) at Peniche (10 minutes drive) and go-carting at Dinokart near Lourinha (20 minutes drive) are both great fun.

The area has numerous restaurants offering excellent cuisine and selections of wine. You wont be disappointed if you like food. Apart from the fabulous 5 Star Marriott Hotel and its facilities, there is a local shop by the tennis courts which offers a limited range of provisions, if you run out of supplies. All the towns have large supermarkets for those kitchen stock ups. Wine lovers will be amazed at the cost and selection. This is a holiday to relax and soak up, not just the sun but the kind hospitality of the Portuguese people.
