Welcome to our relaxing self-catering cottage, with pool and private guest garden, in Arronches, Portugal. Luigi the donkey-Molly and Mabel the 2 tame sheep will enjoy your company too plus the peacocks,chickens,and elderly 2 dogs. On arrival you will receive a complimentary pack of eggs, fresh bread, bottled water, and bottle of Alentejo wine. This is set in 2 hectares of land bordered by the River Caia. Numerous fruit and olive trees with an abundance of wildlife. This area is known as the Alentejo; a hot dry area of Portugal with fields of cattle, wild flowers, cork trees and grape vines. In the field are chickens, peacocks and the donkey plus 2 family dogs. The Portuguese are a friendly gentle race, always willing to help and patiently play "charades" when the language barrier becomes a problem. They appreciate a few words of their own language also - if you can manage! Spain is about 30 mins away for extra shopping, visit two countries on your holiday.

Changeover day
Flexible changeover dates. Check-out by 11am on date of departure, check-in 2pm on day of arrival unless otherwise arranged. We would be grateful if these times are stuck to as it gives us little time to make ready the cottage for the next guests.

Bath towels and bedlinen are included and changed weekly but more can be provided at any time-please ask. Property is cleaned every week. Poolside towels are also supplied. Logs are provided at no extra charge. |

Notes on accommodation
It is possible to add 1/2 more single beds to the cottage therefore sleeping 5/6 persons. The cost is £5 per person per night. English television. Suitable for children. Eggs in the welcome pack are from our own hens,free range and organic. You are welcome to pick your own fruit when in season eg, figs, oranges, plums and grapes, all organic. We have our own Olive Oil, Marmalade, and extra eggs we can sell you-please ask. A book swap service is available and DVD loan.Smokers are asked to smoke outside the property-ashtrays are provided to cut down the fire risk.

Although the property is all on level ground, there is one small step into the bathroom.

The property has 2 private terraces, with garden furniture, including hammock, sun beds and gas bbq. 50m3 outdoor swimming pool with changingroom, shower and toilet.The guest cottage garden overlooks the olive grove all set in 2 hectares of countryside with fruit trees, pond and a river running along the edge of the plot.
Coast/Beach
There is a lovely lake at Avis, half a hours drive from Arronches, at the lake there is watersports such as water skiing, jet skiing, boat trips and a nice park with horseriding plus a restaurant for a good day out.

The property is 1km from the village of Arronches where you can find local shops, bars and amenities. Badajoz (Spain) is approx 40km. Portalegre is 22km, Elvas approx 30km.
Also near the village is a sports centre with football pitch, baseball pitch, tennis courts and jacuzzi.

Arronches shops, banks, takeaways, bars, restaurants, cinema, doctors surgery and pharmacy. Portalegre a large town with a large hospital ,at least 4 large supermarkets on the outskirts and many shops in the historical old town. Badajoz, the nearest large Spanish city combining the old with the new is 20 mins away . From castles to Carrefour supermarkets, museums to McDonalds Badajoz has it all including a themed waterpark.
Elvas - Famous for its military fortifications, a 843 arched aqueduct, and quaint shops and boutiques.
Fishing locally with Arronches Fishing Club. Equipment available for daily hire with license supplied. Horse riding School approx 10km in Spain. Local gym and tennis courts.
Walks in the National Park with plentiful wildlife.
