Quinta das Casuarinas for 25yrs has been our beautiful, spacious, comfortable home - with a wonderful feeling of privacy and seclusion, being set in grounds of 3 acres. The southerly panoramic views are towards the village of Portelas and the historic old town of Lagos and the sea where there are miles of beautiful sandy beaches, only 2 miles away. Bougainvillea, morning glory, oleander and acacia grow abundantly around the villa. There are many covered, shaded areas for escaping the midday sun - one of which overlooks the huge securable pool terrace - providing seating for supervision of young children and an area for alfresco dining with a BBQ. Looking west there are further covered areas (just outside the 2nd sitting-room ) - a second dining area plus a comfortable outside ‘sitting-room’ from which to enjoy your morning coffee or evening drinks with a view of the garden and setting sun. Many beautiful golf courses are within easy driving distance. Plus surfing only a 1/2 hour drive.

These prices for Quinta das Casuarinas are per week in UK Pounds. But it is possible to pay in Euro at whatever exchange rate, prevails at the time.

Changeover day
The changeover day is Saturday. Out of peak and high seasons we are able to be more flexible. Generally access after 2pm and departure by 10am. Luggage can be left before 2pm on arrival day and left to be picked up after 10am on departure day.

| Kitchen: | Fully equipped to a high standard, and linked to dining and 2nd sitting room. Doors lead onto westerly shaded dining/sitting room terrace. For chilly evenings a wood-burning stove, plus 2nd independent TV with free view, Sky, BBC radio and TV programs. |
| Utility Room: | There is a casinha, a little cottage across from the kitchen - where Ascensau does all the house ironing. In the kitchen there is a dishwasher and washing machine, plus a separate iron and ironing board in the house for guests to use. |
| Living Rooms: | The 30' sitting room has 3 large sofas + chairs, satellite TV with BBC, Sky, DVD & video, CD/Audio tape facilities. Doors lead out to the covered dining terrace with gas barbecue - near the pool. For chilly evenings there is a wood-burning stove. |
| Other: | We very rarely have trouble with mosquitoes but all the bedrooms have mosquito nets except the family bedroom which has a screen over the opening window.All beds have electric blankets (for winter lets). All rooms have UK adaptors for UK appliances. |

Maid service. Ascensau comes in 5 mornings per week except on National Holidays. Bath towels and linen are included and changed weekly or as necessary. Pool and beach towels not included. We have 3 cots and highchairs for babies - at no extra charge. |

The swimming pool (33 x 16.5ft)- has 2 large gates to prevent over enthusiastic toddlers from getting to the pool unsupervised. The villa has been our home, 1st or 2nd for 25 years,we lived here with our small children. So safety was always an important consideration.
The villa is set in 3 acres of grounds with many muture trees providing attractive shaded areas. It is enclosed by a mixture of fencing and/or hedging with a gate at the bottom of the drive.
Away from the house, my (locked) painting studio has a covered terrace, which this summer has provided a peacful adult escape for a quiet coffee and a good book and a spot for Thai Massage !
And the pool terrace used for a Yoga Group .
Next year we have a painting holiday planned.
Accessibility
The house is built on one level and is suitable for the elderly and infirm, - except perhaps the 4 steps down to the pool terrace. We have a regular guest who is in a wheelchair - please talk to me for further details. The villa is constructed on one level - with the exception of the steps down to the pool and it's terrace and the steps onto the lawn. An English & Portuguese manager, looks after the house and is on hand to sort out any problems, welcome guest and give advice on most things.
Outside
From the pool terrace there is a lovely, southerly, sweeping view of countryside and the village of Portelas- (towards the old historic town of Lagos and the sea -2 miles away). From here you can enjoy the sunrise if you are an early bird! The swimming pool is surrounded by a huge terrace, plenty of sunbathing space all around it, and a covered terrace for escaping the midday sun. There is a good supply of sunbeds and poolside furniture and there are 2 large gates to prevent toddlers from getting to the pool unsupervised. There are several shaded spots for a quiet read - a game of cards or peaceful drink. There is a choice of dining tables outside - under the covered terraces for alfresco meals. One near the pool has a large gas BBQ. The other on the westerly terrace, nearer to the kitchen. Also on the westerly terrace, away from the pool and next to the lawn, outside sitting-room where you can enjoy your morning coffee or an evening drink while watching the setting sun.
Coast/Beach
We are 5 minutes drive away from many beautiful sandy beaches all around Lagos. On Meia Praia you can walk or run for several miles. Windsurfing, sailing, waterskiing and jet skiing all available. There is surfing and surf schools on the west coast beaches 1/2 hours drive away. Day trips and equipment can be organised from Lagos, or you can hire boards etc on Cordoama and Armado Beaches.
Occasionally you can surf on the south coast too - but there are no hire facilities here.
Golf
Palmares golf course 5 miles (fantastic sea views).
Penina golf course 8 miles (Henry Cotton designed).
Boa Vista golf course 4 miles new said to be very good!
Parque da Floresta golf course 12-15 miles. Morgado 7kms inland from Penina - set in beautiful unspolt coutryside. With the bonus of no new villas to spoil the views yet!
Special interest holidays
Lagos (2 miles from the villa) is a beautiful, walled town full of lovely old buildings and is steeped in history. There is a mass of bars, restaurants and interesting little shops. The local produce market offers a huge choice of fish, flowers and fresh fruit, and it is still possible to eat a simple seafood meal with wine for around 10Euros per head. Surfing: wonderful, sandy, surfing beaches on the West Coast which would remind you of the Cornish north coast with the exception of the weather! Here there is glorious sunshine, cooling breezes and fewer people.
On Saturday mornings there is a farmers market where you can buy locally grown produce - some of it organic ( this is by the bus station ).
On the first Saturday of the month Lagos holds a large market selling every thing you can imagin. This is held by the roundabout on the east side of the town. (Morning only). Tennis can be played at The Boa Vista Golf Course on the west side of Lagos - driving towards Luz.
Travel
Faro Airport 56 miles from house less than 1 hour's drive on the new motorway. As you leave or arrive look out for the roundabout with the sculptures!- next to the 24hr / 7 day week - petrol station. Car hire is a BIG advantage - I can recommend a local company who are reliable and do not over-charge. No charge for extra drivers - and no inspection with a magnifying glass ! How-ever it is essential to carry your driving licence and your passport when driving .
Distances
Portelas is 1/2 mile from the house and has a shop and 3 restaurants. The lovely old walled town of Lagos is 2 miles.
The Moorish capital of the Algarve, Silves, with its Castle, Cathedral, Moorish sculptures, Cork Museum 40 mins. Caldas de Monchique the small spa town in the hills - famous for Chicken Piri Piri approx 40 mins drive. Cape St.Vincent the south-westerly point of Europe next to the small town of Sagres where the fish couldn't be fresher! approx 45 mins drive.

Pool Cover / Blanket - we have a new pool cover (on a roller with wheels). This increases the pool water temperature by inbetween 8 and 10 degrees with good sunlight during the day - and greatly helps to stop the temperature dropping and water evaporation over night.
Internet Access - our local signal has been upgraded/increased. So we are hoping in future that the wireless connection will be much more reliable than it has been in the past, connection details are in the villa. But you will need to bring your own lap top.
Horse riding stables are within 5 minutes drive, and tennis courts within 3 miles. Painting classes are available for most of the year - even one to one - with paper and paints provided! Slide and Splash water park 30 minutes. Zoo 10 minutes. Marine Water Park about 30 minutes.
Information about banks, doctors is all available in the villa.
Plus information on safari trips in to the Algarve interior! Boat trips with barbecues etc. There is a multi-plex cinema in Portimao. A Cultural Centre in Lagos with plays, concerts and exhibitions.
The historic Slave Market is now a Slave Museum.
Lagos Zoo - is worth a visit and you can enjoy the restaurant there as well.
The new Formula One race track is only 20 minutes away.
I am sure I have missed things out. But we have a file of information in the villa! There is a mass of restaurants, bars and clubs within a few miles - no shortage of choice to suit everyones taste - and taxis are cheap!
Booking notes
Deposit of £300 for bookings between 5th Nov 2011 and 3rd March 2012.
25% deposit for all other bookings. This deposit should be payed within one week of booking please. The remaining rent is payable 8 weeks before your holiday. Plus a refundable, security deposit cheque of £300 against telephone calls, breakages/damage. Booking deposits are not refundable. Personal travel insurance is recommended.

About the owner
Back in 1984 we took a last minute, unplanned holiday to Portugal. We flew to Faro, on the south coast, hired a car and drove from Tavira to Cape St. Vincent with many stops on the way.
We fell in love with the West Algarve, its friendly people, the charming old walled town of Lagos, steeped in history and with its views across The Bay of Lagos. Wonderful blue skies, turquoise sea, warm sunshine and miles of beautiful, golden, sandy beaches.
With the added bonus of being so close to the stunning protected beaches of the West Algarve coast, craggy cliffs, soft sand, wide estuary's and surf. This was an big extra draw.
It reminded me of years of family holidays in Cornwall, but with great weather & my husband was missing his earlier years in the South African sunshine!

Why the owner chose a home in this location
By the end of our holiday, we returned home to the UK, as proud owners of a half built house on a south facing hillside!
After a couple of years we moved, lock, stock and barrel, to The Algarve, with our two small children, to live the dream!
Sadly after 7 happy years we had to return, secondary education for our two boys beckoned.
But we haven't looked back, we continue to spend as much time there as possible, visiting old friends and enjoying holidays for celebrations with family, friends and children of all ages.
We love sharing it with all of you and really appreciate all the great feed back we get! Over the years my husband has worked hard and developed the garden.
Unique benefits of the property
I now have a studio in the garden and have had many exhibitions of my paintings in The Slave market in Lagos. Unfortunately for us artists, this has recently been converted from an Art Gallery into The Slave Museum.
I have been lucky that our guests have sometimes bought my paintings, that they have seen in the villa. And sometimes I have been commissioned to do paintings of places that they have found evocative and wish to remember. On my web site there are extra photographs - of the Algarve, our villa and some of my paintings.
We have been advertising with Owners Direct since January 2004 - and have had many lovely family's and groups of friends, staying in our villa. With many coming back again and again. A very real ''Home from home!''
