This two bedroom apartment is in the heart of the village, which offers bars, restaurants and shops. Within 10 mins walk is the magnificent sandy beach with safe bathing in the lagoon and surfing on the Atlantic beach. The beachfront has many bars and restaurants. Nearby are the prestigious golf courses of Obidos Lagoon including Praia del Rey and Bom Successo. The apartment is on the second floor (no lift). It has an extensive south facing, sunny balcony with a traditional Portuguese barbecue together with wooden table, chairs and sunshade. The apartment is stylishly decorated and includes two double bedrooms (one opening on to balcony), modern bathroom with bath and shower. The kitchen opens on to a further balcony. Heating is available for winter. It is fully equipped with modern appliances including flat screen TV and DVD player. There is secure garage parking in the basement.

Notes on accommodation
Apartment block is a small development with only one other apartment sharing the second floor. Located in a quiet residential area. Rotating fan can be used in any room. Please note this is a no smoking apartment.

Please note that apartment is on second floor and no lift is available.

Outside
Large south facing sunny balcony has traditional Portuguese barbecue, wooden dining table, chairs and parasol. Balcony can be accessed from both living room and bedroom 2. Further balcony off kitchen.

Coast/Beach
10 minute walk to beach. Foz do Arelho beach has two sections. One offers safe bathing in the beautiful setting of the Obidos Lagoon. This is an extremely popular spot with wind surfers and fishermen. There are a number of restaurants, bars and shops in this area. Further on is the huge Atlantic beach which offers excellent surfing. Again there is a wide range of beach bars and restaurants in this area. There are many other beautiful beaches within easy reach.

Golf
Within half hour drive on the other side of the Obidos Lagoon is the prestigious championship courses of Praia del Rey, Bom Successo and Royal Obidos. Rio Maior is also nearby. Further golf courses are planned for the area. Praia del Rey designed by Cabell B Robinson has been described by Golf World Magazine as "A mix of holes - some in the mighty dunes, others among fragrant pines - that are an assault to the senses. Wild and wonderful"... Royal Obidos has been designed by Seve Ballesteros.

Travel
One hour from Lisbon Airport. Two and half hours from Porto. Three hours from Faro. Lisbon Airport is served by a wide range of budget carriers from a variety of destinations. Car hire is recommended. The drive from Lisbon to Foz is straightforward along a new toll motorway.

Distances
20 minute drive to Obidos. Obidos is a truly spectacular medieval walled town with castle dominating the cobbled streets. The town hosts regular festivals including the world famous chocolate festival. Nearest large town is Caldas da Reinha which is 15 minutes drive. Caldas is an ancient spa town and offers excellent shopping. Also within easy reach are the World Hertage sites of Alcobaca and Batalha, the university city of Coimbra, Fatima and Lisbon. The Silver Coast offers many lovely beaches.

Further details
Foz do Arelho has three mini markets, butchers, pharmacy, patisserie / bakers, specialist fishing shop, a surf school, a bank with an ATM, restaurants and bars, including the excellent Tavola and a variety of other retailers. The beach area 10 minutes walk from the village has a wide variety of bars, restaurants and cafes. There is one of Portugal's leading night clubs, Green Hill, just outside the village.

Nearby Caldas da Rainha has all the facilities of a large town including supermarkets, restaurants, banks (including Barclays) and recreational facilities. It also has a regular street market and railway station.

Obidos has many excellent restaurants and local craft shops. The local Ginja should not be missed. Obidos is also the starting point for a wonderful wine trail.

Other spots worth visiting including Sao da Martinho, Peniche, Nazare, Alcobaca, Batalha, Coimbra, Fatima and Lisbon is one hour away.

We are David and Elizabeth. We both enjoy Portugal but were looking for somewhere a little less commercial and British than the Algarve. We found this on the wonderful Silver Coast. Unfortunately we have to work otherwise the apartment in Foz would be occupied by us year round.
