Baleal is a small Island connected to mainland by a narrow road over the sand. The house is located in the North side of this enchanting Island confronting the Atlantic Ocean. From the panoramic window of the living room you have a stunning view of the Ocean and the Berlengas Islands just in front of the house. Just 100 Km from Lisbon is one of the most beautiful places of the Silver Coast, known by its white sandy beaches some of them well known by surf lovers. For golfers there is a 18 hole golf course in Praia D´El Rey just 15 min drive from Baleal.There are several touristic interesting points within a drive range of about 30 min, like the medieval village of Obidos and the city of Caldas da Rainha known by its typical ceramic industry.

Notes on accommodation
The apartment is a first floor and the stairs to the mezzanine are steep, so it may not be suitable persons with mobility difficulties or very young children.
Families up to 5 persons (2 adults and 3 children) have preference. No pets allowed.

The Island has several beaches all within 1-5 min walking distance.
Golf
There is a 18 hole golf course in Praia D´El Rey just 15 min drive form the Island of Baleal.
Travel
Nearest Airport is Portela Airport in Lisbon. From there you have to travel 100 Km north (highway A6) following Leiria direction. At exit 14 take the road IP6 to Peniche.Then you have to follow the road along the coast for 3km until you arrive to the Island. Car hire is recommended.
Further details
The Island´s white sandy beaches have several Km and are perfect for children. When you are not sunbathing or swimming you can enjoy promenades along the beach. You can also cycle/walk or run the 3 Km distance from Peniche through a seaside pathway specially built for this purpose. If you enjoy fishing there are plenty of places to enjoy your hobby and if you like surf there are several surf camps nearby. We will be more than happy to provide contacts for those who wish to have surf lessons.
You can can visit the Natural Reserve of Berlengas traveling by ferry from Peniche.
For golfers there is a 18 hole golf course (Praia D´El Rey) within 15 min drive.
There are several touristic interesting points within a range of 30 min. One is the Medieval village of Óbidos well preserved and with a intense cultural activity through the entire year. The other is the city of Caldas da rainha internationally Known by its museum (Museu José Malhoa) and typical ceramic industry. You should visit the shops of the factory.
For gastronomy lovers there are plenty of typical restaurants, a few in the Island, and other, which we can point out to you, in the surroundings.
The nearest supermarket is 3 Km away in Peniche.
Booking notes
A 25% of deposit is required at the time of booking and the balance is due 4 weeks before arrival at the property. All payments will be done by bank transfer. A security deposit of 200 euros against breakages is required. This can be paid with the final rental payment and will be returned within 2 weeks of departure from the property or at arrival and returned at departure after property inspection.

About the owner
I live in Lisbon with my husband and our 9 years old daughter. When I met my husband he showed me what he thinks it is the most beautiful coast of Portugal. I had to agree with him. Beautiful, sometimes unexplored beaches, without too much building around and not too crowded. When an architect friend decided to sell his house in Baleal Island we didn't think twice. Since then, we had the most memorable weekends and holidays in the Island.

Why the owner chose an apartment in this location
Baleal Island is a small but wonderful Island in the Atlantic, just 45 minutes drive from Lisbon. The coast line, the sea and the beaches are unique. Every sunset is glorious and different from the others. The Island only has residential buildings, some of them from the 19th century. It is very quiet and since everyone knows each other and the beaches are in a walking distance it is safe for children to stay outside playing with each other.
Unique benefits of the property
The house is in a magnificent spot 20 meters over the sea.It was built by its first owner, an architect who planned the house to make the owner and its guests feel like being sailing. Indeed the sea is always present wherever you are in the apartment. It doesn't really matter if the weather is warm and sunny or if it is cold and stormy because the Island is always a beautiful place to be. I usually say that more than a beautiful spot Baleal is a state of mind.
