Our farmhouse, Casa Lido is situated in a rugged hamlet of white washed stone cottages set amongst ancient Olive Trees. Silveira's population, of just 9 residents enjoy a rural life of tranquility amongst the lush valleys running down to river Tego. Here. explore the many tracks and trails leading from our village or delve further afield to the limestone shards of the Serra de Estrela's 2000m peaks, where you can experience challenging walks leading to a craggy paradise of mossy waterfalls, granite caves and river estuaries fit for summer swimming. If you are looking for total escapism out of the rat race to relax in peace, quiet and tranquillity this is the place for you. Owner profile

Lynn and John welcome your arrival

About the owner
Lynn and John are described as unencumbered intellectual drifters with a passion for music, arts and travel. We settled in rural Portugal from Preston Lancashire early in 2008. We adore the rustic charm of the area and the peaceful way of life. Both our properties have been lovingly restored and upgraded to a style described as a cosy home from home where perhaps hobbit's once lived. We both love continually developing new ideas and have fully embraced a way of life unhindered by 21-century living. We esteem to provide you with a warm welcome and create an environment of comfort and joy. We both love meeting and getting to know our guests often enjoying a glass of wine on a warm evening sharing stories and adventures in our teensy corner of paradise. We look forward to meeting you.

Year purchased: 2008

Why the owner chose a home in this location
The sparsely populated plains of the area are what first attracted us to this astounding location. Imagine walking for miles without seeing a soul, being at one with nature with just the sound of your own breath. Memories of childhood when life was less demanding abound and yet the ease of dipping into Lisbon City life on occasion reminds us why this is home. The properties are located just a mile and half from the main A23 highway which provides easy access to many local beauty spots and attractions, including the Portas de Rodao, just 10 min drive away where 116 species of birds can be observed from the viewing platform that overhangs the river Tejo. Alternatively, a leisurely boat trip on the Tejo allows a totally different perspective to experience one of Portugal's 7 natural wonders.

Unique benefits of the property
The area offers an abundance of exciting adventures to suit a whole variety of pursuits and pastimes. There are many nearby river beaches for those who like to swim or sunbathe. Nearby lakes and rivers offer an abundance of carp, barbell and black bass for fishing or hiking/skiing in the Parque Natural de Serra da Estrela. Step outside the door of Tumbleweed Barn or Sunflower Cottage and begin your own unique quest to explore the many trails in the area, seeking to identify the richness of wildlife, flora and open spaces in total tranquility. Just a ten-minute walk down to the banks of the river Tejo you can watch river eagles, snipe, goshawk, black stork, woodpeckers, hawks and griffin vulture’s circle above or luxuriate back home in pure relaxation with a good book and a glass of vinho.
