An ideal family holiday location, Vale Parra is predominately a low-rise area to the west of Albufeira, seven or eight minutes drive from the town and the same distance from the Guia shopping centre. Every kind of beach can be found within minutes, the long sandy expanse of Gale at one end - also popular with surfers - to its eastern end with coves and rock pools. Gale also has a branch of Apolonia, an upmarket supermarket, as well as other shops and a Michelin 2 star restaurant. In all, the area is well served with restaurants and bars within easy distances, although a hire car is recommended. For golfers, the Salgados complex is only 3 minutes drive away and visits to other courses on the Algarve can be arranged. Villa Oeste with its quiet location boasts a private pool, screened garden, barbecue and an Italianate pergola and patio area. Meals can be taken outside, where a table and chairs are provided by the pool or in the spacious dining room. A snooker room is available downstairs

Changeover day
Changeover day for high season is Thursday. Outside high season by negotiation.
| Bedrooms: | All bedrooms have air-conditioning available, built-in wardrobes and are furnished with John Lewis own-brand beds from the UK. Two twin beds are available in all rooms with a double if required in bedroom 2. A cot is provided for youngsters. |
| Bathrooms: | Two family bathrooms have bath, shower, wash stand and wc. Two en-suites both have shower, wash stand and wc. |
| Kitchen: | The kitchen, with a sliding door onto the patio has a granite top with integrated gas hob. Other appliances are dishwasher, microwave, grill/oven and a large, upright fridge/freezer. |
| Utility Room: | In the utility room you will find a Bosch washing machine and a spin dryer. An ironing board and steam iron are also available. The villa features an integral vacuuming system and the hose is located there. |
| Living Rooms: | The large living room features a broadband link, flat screen TV, DVD player, bass-boost and a ghetto blaster for radio/CD. A range of games is available for a wet day. Main furniture in here and the dining room is sourced from Marks and Spencer in the UK. |
| Other: | Air-conditioning is available in all reception and bedrooms. A snooker room with a three-quarter size table is also available. An upper terrace can be used for sunbathing and clothes drying - another small terrace to the front is ideal for sundowners. |

Notes on accommodation
Young children are well catered for with cots and high chairs available. Air-conditioning in all reception and bedrooms is available at a small extra charge, payable as you arrive. The villa benefits from energy-saving solar heating panels, which can be augmented by an integral immersion heater unit at peak periods. For your safety an intruder alarm is installed, together with a fire protection system of smoke alarms, fire blanket and extinguishers. Free Wi-Fi access is available and local landline calls - such as booking a table at your favourite restaurant - are also free of charge.
Accessibility
Whilst three of the double bedrooms at Villa Oeste are on an upper floor, there is one double bedroom and a family bathroom downstairs on the ground floor. This is accessed from the road without an intervening step up or down. Further access to kitchen, dining and living rooms and the patio, BBQ and pool areas are without a further step. This makes it ideal accommodation for the mobility-impaired.
Outside
The private pool (approx 12m x 4m) has a 'Roman end' and is the centrepiece of the patio. This is bordered by a triangular, screened garden with lawn, shrubs, fruit and palm trees. A barbecue is provided with an oval, eight-seater table and chairs. For sunbathing, loungers and mattresses are available.
Coast/Beach
Within five minutes drive the beaches ('praias') at Gale, San Lourenco, Evaristo, Castello, Coelha and Sao Rafael can be accessed. Please see accompanying photographs of Gale beach and Albufeira's beaches (ten minutes drive).
Golf
Salgados Golf Complex is only three minutes drive from Villa Oeste. Other courses on the Algarve, such as those at Vilamoura and Quinta do Lago are within twenty-five minutes drive.
Travel
A hire car is recommended as Faro Airport is 35 minutes drive away. To drive from the UK either take a cross-channel ferry (or Eurostar) and drive down through France and Spain allowing a good 2 days, or take the Plymouth-Santander ferry (18 hours) and drive through northern Spain and into Portugal, allowing about 12 hours (680 miles). Brittany Ferries are adding Portsmouth to Plymouth this year, both services linking Santander.
Distances
Albufeira, Guia 4-5 miles. Lisbon 160 miles - or try taking the fast, tilting train from Albufeira station.
Further details
Within a few minutes walk of Villa Oeste you will find two supermarkets, a bank, a chemist, an English-speaking laundry, tobacconist and newspapers plus any number of bars and restaurants catering for all tastes.

Payment in full to be made 14 days prior to move-in date. As flights from most UK destinations arrive during the day and local supermarkets remain open usually until 20.00hrs, welcome packs of basics are no longer provided. About the owner
Hi - we are a married couple with one grown-up daughter living in Bedfordshire, England for most of the year and the remainder in Villa Oeste.
We have been coming to Portugal since 1982 and have found the Vale Parra area offers close access to the best 'character' beaches, marvellous restaurants and bars in and around the Albufeira area and plenty of shopping opportunities. It is still mostly low-rise and being that one step back from the coast (just over a mile) is quieter and provides better all-round access.

Why the owner chose a home in this location
Lying off the main Vale Parra road in a small residential cul-de-sac, Villa Oeste provides a quiet place to return after a hectic day out.
The pool and BBQ are all yours - you don't have to share facilities - and you can spend as much time as you like around the patio during the day and in the evening sun.
However, it is only 40 minutes drive from Faro airport, 15 minutes from Albufeira railway station (in Ferreiras) for trains to Lisbon and Porto and 10 minutes from the Guia shopping Centre.
On the occasional rainy day there are games available on the living room shelves and a snooker room down in the 'vaults'.
Although a hire car is recommended, there are sufficient shops, restaurants and bars within walking distance in Vale Parra. The beaches require a more determined walk.
Unique benefits of the property
Having spent a number of holidays in different grades of accommodation over the years, and having the blank canvas of a completely new home to furnish, we have tried to avoid a lot of the pitfalls such as hard, knobbly furniture and nylon sheets.
All the divan beds are sourced from John Lewis, as is the bedlinen; the other bedroom furniture was made in South Africa.
The reception room furniture is by Marks and Spencer with selected additions from good local sources.
Again, the major kitchen utensils are mostly from John Lewis and other reputable UK makes.
So, in total we hope we have provided for you the best of back home with the warmth and ambience of Portugal for the maximum enjoyment of your holiday.
